Acerca de esta escucha
Mobile will change everything - again.
Our love affair with our cell phones will grow even stronger over the coming years.
A recent study from PEW University says over 44% of us have slept with our cell phones. Honestly, cell phones are changing the way we live, work, shop, receive news and other information. The majority of Americans under age 18 don't know what a landline is and have never lived in a home that had one.
It's all part of a trend created by the introduction of the first smartphones. We are shifting to a culture of Internet on the go. Users want to be able to access the Internet wherever they go - on the beach, at work, in planes, cars, and automobiles.
Cellular companies are responding by dishing up larger data packages at ever faster speeds. Within the next five years it is likely all carriers will offer unlimited high speed data. Municipalities will run fiber optic cable in most metropolitan areas, offering free WiFi hot spots in direct competition with cable companies and cellular providers, and home WiFi could easily become a thing of the past. The wired home is fast evolving into the wired planet.

Technological advances have benefited our world in immeasurable ways, but there is an ominous flip side: our technology can be turned against us. Hackers can activate baby monitors to spy on families, thieves are analyzing social media posts to plot home invasions, and stalkers are exploiting the GPS on smart phones to track their victims’ every move. We all know today’s criminals can steal identities, drain online bank accounts, and wipe out computer servers, but that’s just the beginning.

The Internet and smartphone are just the latest in a 250-year-long cycle of disruption that has continuously changed the way we live, the way we work, and the way we interact. The coming Augmented Age, however, promises a level of disruption, behavioral shifts, and changes that are unparalleled. While consumers today are camping outside of an Apple store waiting to be one of the first to score a new Apple Watch or iPhone, the next generation of wearables will be able to predict if we're likely to have a heart attack and recommend a course of action.

How do you tell a real trend from the merely trendy? How, for example, will a technology—like artificial intelligence, machine learning, self-driving cars, biohacking, bots, and the Internet of Things—affect us, our businesses, and workplaces? How will it eventually change the way we live, work, play, and think—and how should we prepare for it now? In The Signals Are Talking, noted futurist Amy Webb shows us how to analyze the "true signals" and land on the right side of disruption.
