Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Fern Michaels dazzles listeners with the unforgettable story of one woman's life - the betrayal that nearly destroys her, the love that helps her heal, and the struggle to find the truth about herself and the man she thought she knew.

An only child who lost both parents during her first year at college, wealthy heiress Kristine Kelly had made her husband her whole world. But she didn't see what everyone else did: that handsome, charismatic Logan Kelly was a manipulator and a user. Then, one cold December, Kristine got a chilling wake-up call when Logan vanished, along with the eight-million-dollar trust fund she had naively given him the power to control.

Just when Kristine's life was at its lowest point, banker Aaron Dunwoodie offered her passion, a strong shoulder to lean on, and a relationship to believe in. But a woman once fooled is twice wary, and very vulnerable. There were still too many questions Kristine needed to answer before she could commit her heart again: what really happened to Logan.... What did she truly want for herself.... And what would she do if Logan - a dangerous, seductive, and yet irresistible man - walked back into her life?

Inaccurate "theme description"

This book was completely different than the summary. It is not really about an heiress deceived by her manipulative husband and her quest to understand while getting involved with another man. Though those things may occur, they are in a TOTALLY different context, the summary is a random cherry picking of events in the book. After 3 hours in I was very bored and uninterested and kept checking that I didn't misunderstand or misread the summary. These are the aspects of the book I wished I knew beforehand or that should be included or at LEAST hinted at in the summary:

1) In present day, Kristine and Logan are around their 40's with 3 children in their teens (maybe 16-17 yrs old)
2) The book flashes back from the mid-1960's then jumps to the present of the mid-1980's
3) Present day starts with Logan retiring from the US Military and the family living in Germany where Logan is stationed.
4) The family is moving back to the US since Logan is retiring and so Kristine and the kids go first while her husband is supposed to follow shortly after.
5) He never comes and THAT'S how Kristine was deceived (it occurs right away and didn't unravel in a suspenseful way so it doesn't matter)

So, she and the 3 kids learn right away that Logan took off with the trust fund money and the kids get involved in figuring everything out. The kids confront Kristine early on and tell her that she was an absent mom in the sense that she was very passive and their dad was a disciplinarian and had wandering eyes for other women (and of course Kristine is just stunned with this news). And THAT'S how Kristine learns how "manipulative" her husband was/is - there were no enthralling circumstances or incidents. There was no mention of a family with almost adult children in the mix. Had I known these were the actual events to unfold I would not have been interested in the book. Though it may be a good story, it is not what is advertised and therefore, quite disappointing.

Who is this dumb?

This book is very frustrating. Who would make this many stupid decisions? Your husband shows back up after disappearing for 8 years and then you just let him back ? And don’t do anything to verify his story? And also let him have access to your money again after stealing 8 million? This lady doesn’t realize until her ex husband at this point almost rapes her?!? Who wouldn’t try to verify a story about her husband dying? Or at least go to one appointment with him? This book will make you really mad!

IT WAS AWFUL!

I struggled to finish this book. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!" That sums up the stupid woman in this story. Book was too long.

Fern Michaels seldom disappoints.

This is a truly involved story line with good, bad, and what I’ll call normal characters. Narration is well done. The plot holds your attention, sometimes you want to give a character a good shake to wake them up to reality. The romance is mildly explicit, but not too heavy handed. I enjoyed it and recommend it. Held as print and audio which helps people with vision issues.

The Best

This has to be one of the very best of Fern Michael's best novels. I enjoyed every minute of every chapter! It has suspense, fun, and gratification! What more could one want in a book?

The book is a great story, but…The narration was very monotone and the syntax off. It took a lot away from experience.

Great plot with lots of twists

This is a good story with lots of elements. My only criticism is that there is the odd time when it tends to drag a little to emphasise a point which is generally about the central character, Christine, and her inability to see clearly. Thus, it can make it a little slow. It also makes you wonder if really, there are, women who would be so blinkered and naive about the traits someone exhibits. The story line is good and well worth listening too as it has one good twists.

Disney Princess???

She must have thought herself a Disney Princess, with her brainless head in the clouds. How could anyone be that stupid for that long?
