Damaged, dark, explicit and sweet
Author likes dark romance involving alpha males and damaged young girls. I like all of that except the young girl bit, but found the age thing didn’t factor in too badly for this book. Unlike many of her other books that tend to be 5-6 hr cliff hangers, this one is a complete story about 18 year old stripper and grifter Bianca, who’s caught with her hand in her mafia employer’s cookie jar by former military security guy West. Even though there are bdsm themes with dubious consent, West is quite honorable and their story is surprisingly sweet (still explicit though, with 2 sex scenes). The narrator talks very low and slow, and the writing at times tries to be deeper and more poetic than this genre should be. I liked the listen much better at 1.4x. One minor annoyance now seen in several of her books is her overlong set-up for the girl’s rough-life backstory, compared to the too short, rushed wrap-up of the plot, conflict or action once the couple decides they’re an item. This was decent as a free listen, but I doubt I’ll pay for it or the 2 book set containing this novella (Dark Love)
