Story
Underneath the patina of civilized society lies the Sadean demimonde: a bundle of lustful appetites fueled by momentary impulse and a desire for unfettered indulgence. And the target of this savagery: Justine de Bertole, a pious and virginal heroine. Grotesque, inhumane, and compelling, Sade’s novel overturns Rousseau’s views of the social contract, and the common trope that punishment only visits sinners, to deliver a passionate treatise on good and evil, virtue and sin.

They say the devil goes by many names, and I know four of them: Ciro, Hale, Zaid, and Lucas. My father was once a powerful player in the Chicago underground, but six years ago, he left that life behind. The past always finds you, and mine finds me on my wedding day when four brutal, dangerous men drag me from the altar in a hail of gunfire. Four men who used to be four boys. Four boys I cared about. Four boys I left behind. They’re not the same boys I knew though, and whatever we may have once been to each other, it doesn’t matter anymore.

On the day my husband and I committed to each other, I didn't wear a white dress. We didn't exchange rings. There was no audience or minister to witness our union. Only the two of us. We swore to put each other first, to take on the evils our families had perpetuated together. Side by side. But that was before the past returned to haunt us. Now, everything has changed.

Story
On the day I was married, I promised to love, honor, and obey my husband, Stefan. Little did I know how literally I would mean obeying. Stefan tells me what to do, and I do it. There are questions asked, but I always submit in the end. It would hurt less if I hadn't started falling for him. It was supposed to be pretend. But the secrets we now share are too real, and they're crumbling every piece of who I thought I was. If only Stefan was the man I thought he was. If only I weren't so powerless. But there's one thing I have that he wants. My body.

They said write what you know so that's what I did. I wrote dirty, I wrote erotic, I wrote the truth. And then they called me a liar. But it's not me who's lying, it's them. Story
The story of Lady Chatterley and her love for her husband's gamekeeper outraged the sensibilities of Edwardian England. Lawrence had already been dismissed as a purveyor of the obscene for the attitudes to sex that he had shown in The Rainbow, which had been fiercely suppressed on its publication in 1915. Chatterley, written in several versions around 1928 in Italy in the final part of Lawrence's life, was a deliberate choice on the author's part to address sex head on.

Publisher's Summary
Audie Award Winner, Erotica, 2014
Carrie's Story is regarded as one of the finest erotic novels ever written - smart, devastatingly sexy, and at times, shocking, Molly Weatherfield has penned a book that is standing the test of time alongside The Story of O and Justine.
Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature, who moonlights as a bike messenger, with a penchant for irony, self-analysis and as well as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more chateau-friendly, Napa Valley, Weatherfield's deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, enticing "ponies", (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery and irrevocable submission.

Wow. Totally NOT what I was expecting....
Wow. I can't begin to tell you what a surprise Carrie's Story was for me. I've been pretty much "vanilla" my entire life and then like all the other women out there, Fifty Shades comes along and bam! I realize there's more to sex than just, well... vanilla. So begins my ride down the Erotica trail and what a great ride it's been. But, even Fifty is TAME in comparison to Carrie....however, I was totally pulled in from the first line and listened to this book in one day.
Carrie is unbelievably intelligent, having just finished graduate school and preparing to begin her masters program. She's a dedicated, hard-working, loyal woman with a solid head on her shoulders and doesn't take crap from anyone, yet she's warm. I liked her right from the start.
Johnathan is rich (aren't they all?), gorgeous (again? hello?) but a difference from Christian is that Johnathan is roughly fifteen years older than Carrie, almost a father-figure in a way I thought. He meets her at a party and almost immediately asks her to be "his slave" and we automatically think Carrie will say NO, but shockingly, she doesn't. She meets him at his home and the whole thing "begins" -- I was trying so hard to keep up with all that was going on visually and yet I still had to go back and rewind because I didn't want to miss a thing. It. Was. That. Good.
SPOILERS BELOW
Their relationship is completely and utterly SBDM, but we get these glimpses of loving acts between them when Johnathan allows Carrie to "be herself" but it is RARE. It's tough too, made me sad, and I wanted so much more for them, these two, in their way, controlling characters. I wanted the HEA but it wasn't to be found here. The story moves along with Carrie making a poor decision and Johnathan ends up selling her on the auction block -- but there's so much that happens in this seemingly short, six-hour book to put it in one review. It just wasn't what I was expecting and I loved every minute of it.
This was my first "real" BDSM book and well, I have to say, it won't be my last.

Very Hot
If you like BDSM erotica, this book and its sequel, "Safe Word", are for you. Although a little too much emphasis on "pony girls" for me, the rest of the books are well-written, with interesting characters and lots of steamy sex. Well worth the price.

Rarely explicit or sexual documentary-type tale
This book didn't work for me for two reasons. The first reason is that the book has very, very few incidents like the one showcased in the book excerpt sample. In fact, I don' think there is more than 2 additional moments like the excerpt. So do not buy this book based on that excerpt, which brings me to the second reason this book didn't work for me. That reason is that the book reads like a documentary or diary entry. It's almost entirely told with the h, Carrie, telling ABOUT her year of training as a sex slave and not SHOWING the listener. So there's little dialogue. And person-to-person engagement is not seen by us, the listener; we are not allowed to be spectators. Instead, we find out what happens second-hand by Carrie telling us about it and not showing it or allowing us to see most of what happens on our own. The very few sex acts occur in the same way. We're told that sex happens, not shown that it happens. So most sexual encounters--primarily anal sex or some type of anal play-or short and just stated as something that happened. As said before, there are only about two other actual encounters that we get to "see" happen, not including the one showcased in the book sample. So, it didn't work for me at all. But, if you like sort of introspective books and ones that tell about something more than shows the action, then this book is for you. It does that well.

Molly Weatherfield Knows How to Play Every Stroke
"Carrie's Story" changed the Romance genre from R to X. It brought “Story of O” to romance, with open, thrilled arms. People who say, “Why is Story of O so bad?"–find their home here. Molly Weatherfield is the most brilliant psychologist and historian in erotic romance. She knows how to play every stroke.
Shana Savage just took the script and fulfilled it, beautifully. This is probably the most requested backlist title I ever produced, and I was thrilled we did it so perfectly.

A bit more techinical than relationships
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Probably not...I'm more interested in the books that push the boundaries within a relationship - not preparing an 'item' for sale.
Would you be willing to try another book from Molly Weatherfield? Why or why not?
Only to find out what happens to Carrie after this book ended
What three words best describe Shana Savage’s voice?
Confident, animated, believable
Did Carrie's Story inspire you to do anything?
No
Any additional comments?
This is TOTALLY BDSM to the highest degree-it is along the same line as The Marketplace. It is interesting if you are looking for an education into the 'lifestyle' but a too hardcore & clinical for this reader.
NOTE: Violence, sex & strong language

an interesting read but not the story of o
This was an interesting read. It brings The Story of O style scenario into and more modern setting, which obviously creates its own kind of issues. Plus the voice in which it is written I believe gives us a lot more of the running dialogue in the character's mind, which in some ways makes it more personal and less awe inspiring because the mundane is broken down. I actually get irritated about some of the scenes of this book because I think that the people who are doing the things that are demeaning are themselves small and rather pathetic, which makes me want to be vengeful for the protagonist. I would almost rather our protagonist be an incredibly wealthy and powerful person who the moment she decides to stop being a slave step out of this role kind of she can go bury all the sadistic assholes who do her a nasty turn. Plus I had trouble with those aspects of The Story of O as well. Giving yourself into somebody is one thing, forcing the subjugation I get it the whole power play and all of that, but being cruel for cruelty sake that I don't understand. I've never enjoy the idea of hurting people, and just being mean with no reason doesn't make sense to my head. the Slate idea that's great, someone to cater to my every whim, to be used as I see fit, to do whatever I say with whomever I say when I say it, all great stuff. But then being in that position of power I don't understand the cruelty for cruelty sake. I have a hard time following what it is the protagonist is getting out of this except if she's looking for the big payout at the end. I feel like with it being a modern-day character you almost need the psychological breakdown of what Daddy issue made her go for something like this. Not a fan of the reader for this one. manages to make all the men seemed whiny and pathetic. and in general losses this rather loser emo vibe, which she may have been going for but I don't think it works that well for any character except the main character, which is the one voice that it is least prevalent in

A Good Read
Always difficult to make stories like this engaging, but the narrator made rather a good job of this one. A fun engaging and believable version of a dom sub relationship from the point of view of the submissive. Who is for once an intelligent young lady with a three dimensional personality. Supporting characters are also reasonable.

Witty and wild
Would you listen to Carrie's Story again? Why?
Yes and I have! The writing style is beautiful and the sexual content provocative, sometimes even down right shocking!
What did you like best about this story?
The sexual content and the descriptive writing
Which character – as performed by Shana Savage – was your favourite?
Carrie for obvious reasons, but her owner Jonathan is also very intriguing
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The opening lines where enough to let me know this was a book for me!
