Not the book I thought it was.

This is the worst book ever. Honestly, it is deliberately meant to trick you into thinking it is the audio of Shawn Baker's book. It is not. The writing quality is horrendous. It is funny at points how incredibly stilted the language is. It sounds like very badly translated English. The reader will actually repeat lines, so his performance of the horribly chosen words is lacking. Then, he mispronounces things. I feel cheated out of a credit.....

Poorly read and poorly written

I couldn't even get through half of the book. The narrator does not know how to narrate.

Native English speakers beware

I really had to work at listening to this and that is no fun. If you speak English you may have a hard time listening and making sense of some of the sentence structures and phrasing. Lots of mispronunciations as well. The combination makes it a hard listen. It would be a really good book for beginners if it was rewritten and then recorded for the English speaking audience. I would pass and find another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need this for "easy days".

Apparently, I'm one of those metabolically resistant people that takes just a little bit longer to adjust to a ketogenic diet. I needed easy days when I was first starting and occasionally I still need them because I'm still adjusting to the diet. I've only been on it for about a month and I still have days where I feel incredibly tired and I'm still trying to get the hang of what my macros need to be for somebody with insulin resistance and high cortisol levels. This book can really help people who are just tired and don't really have the energy to meal prep using recipes that have 15 or 20 ingredients. A lot of the recipes are super easy and they're delicious. They are mostly all ingredients that you can find locally no matter where you live. Many are budget friendly. I also found the even if you don't follow the recipes exactly, this is more about giving you ideas for ways that you can pair foods together so you don't get bored while still keeping it easy. You can get some ideas on what flavors would work together so that you don't give up from boredom of just eating eggs and avocado everyday. I also like that the author often includes the brand names of certain key ingredients that she uses and that takes some of the stress out of grocery shopping. For instance, I don't want to be standing in the grocery store and reviewing the nutrition facts on every pizza sauce in the store to try to find the lowest carb one. She tells you which brand she uses and if your local grocers don't have it, you can always look to see if Amazon has it. You don't have to waste your time hunting around for one that tastes good and has the right carb counts. Not all of us live close to stores that carry endless options for low carb living so I like the simple ingredient lists and I like that she lists the name brands so that if you can't find them, you at least know what to order.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised: Simple and Easy

"You can't judge a book by it's cover." We have all heard that. When I saw CARROTS on the cover of a book for ketogenic dieting, I thought, well here we go again. Everybody knows that carrots have too much sugar. However, once you actually read the book (as well as looking at the delicious photos) you find a ketogenic diet gourmet gem. They rightly state in the "Foods to Enjoy" table on page 8 that carrots can be included but "only with moderation". The basic information regarding achieving a ketogenic lifestyle is brief, yet accurate. The whole book tells you how to have "Foods to Enjoy" on your ketogenic diet. The recipes chosen are diverse and simplified for our busy lives, yet delicious and adding that little bit of joy from a selection of self-prepared foods which taste real good. I enjoy the Blackberry-Chia Pudding (Frozen Blackberries from my backyard).

3.0 out of 5 stars i thought it would be easy peas

I bought this book because it had “5 ingredients” in the title.i thought it would be easy peasy for cooking during the hectic work week. The recipes are pretty easy but most required more than 5 ingredients which is irritating since the name is “Easy 5 ingredients...”

Excellent source of information and a new perspect

Shawn Baker explains in plain and easy words the benefits of the all meat diet, how the claims that meat production is bad for environment and that it is linked to many diseases is poorly based in poor data and biased studies, and gives many examples of persons who cured themselves of many illness by consuming meat only. It's a much worthy reading and may help you to regain your health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meat will continue to be essent

Terminology: "Diet" is used here in the sense of "what we eat", not "weight loss intervention". When humans and pre-humans were evolving, they all ate some or lots of meat. (Our "cousins" who didn't eat meat either died out or are still in trees eating for hours every day). Meat (in a broad sense) is therefore "species appropriate" for humans, and it is the healthiest and most natural source of nutrients. This book puts meat into this historical, and a future, context. It identifies why veganism is a false direction. It encourages readers to eat mostly or entirely meat, and provides a lot of nutritional information about it. The book includes birds and fish as well as mammals.

Worth reading

I enjoyed the carnivore vs vegan/agriculture/gas production part the most. It includes many charts and statistical information on meat consumption, it’s environmental impact compared to plant based diet. It also contains lists of other possible resources to read, carnivore fb groups to join, lists of nutritional values of various animals, their organs, short list of how and where to shop for meat, how to prepare it. Great book for people starting their carnivore journey. It’s well rounded source of information ranging from the benefits of the diet, how to adapt to it, stories of people living on the diet, history of eating to an environmental impact, how some food data might be manipulated or misinterpreted etc..

This book could save your life AND the planet

This book is a brilliantly written, easily accessible approach to the carnivore diet - a diet that involves ONLY eating animal products. It's the perfect book for beginners and anyone (like myself) who goes: 'Hey?! WTAF?! What about eating the rainbow? What about fibre? Vitamin C? Won't you get cancer and scurvy? And aren't you going to destroy the planet? The Carnivore Diet dismantles all of these myths and more, showing how the proper use of ruminant animals is the only way to reverse desertification and topsoil loss through plant based agriculture, and how it is the ultimate diet for healing. As well as all the science presented in a clear way, Shawn Baker shows you how to implement the diet and make it work for you.

Fantastic read. Fantastic buy

This book is fantastic. Provides information in a clear, concise manner. Everyday are are bombarded with propaganda about how healthy veganism is, yet most people who have tried this way of living will tell you long term you will not do well. Shawn Baker is showing a different path and I very much appreciate his contributions to diet science.

Changing minds and diets

I very much enjoyed this book and equally enjoy people experimenting with different diets. The current path society is on is not working, and instead of accepting this MSM is doubling down on ignorance. Most nutritional "experts" are universally against this diet and I think that says allot. Everyday are are bombarded with propaganda about how healthy veganism is, yet most people who have tried this way of living will tell you long term you will not do well. Shawn Baker is showing a different path and I very much appreciate his contributions to diet science.
