Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

From her first moment at Merryweather High, Melinda Sordino knows she's an outcast. She busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, a major infraction in high-school society, so her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't know glare at her. She retreats into her head, where the lies and hypocrisies of high school stand in stark relief to her own silence, making her all the more mute.

A Teenage Look At Living The Christian Life
Capturing Faith. That makes me think of a run-away story where Faith is on the run and we are looking for her. There is no person named Faith in this story. This fictional story could take place anywhere in America. Even in your high school. But don’t get the idea that this story is just for your teenage kids. This story is for anyone that has tried to live out their faith in Christ and feel they have come up short. In other words, this book is for you.
Although the main characters in this story are all teenagers, sex is not the subject matter. This is a clean story but it is a very dramatic story. God may not cause the pain in your life, you can do that well enough on your own, but He does use your circumstances as teaching moments to draw you closer to Him. To teach you to trust Him in all things, in every part of your life.
If you have ever looked for a real book about real life then this would be a good book to get. Especially if you are a Christian struggling to live in this fallen world. The Bible is the training manual. This book is simply a good story to help you understand how to live the what the Bible teaches in today’s very secular world.

Great story!
I started out listening to book two of this series and was a little spoiled by that narrator. in comparison, this narrator was a little clunky and spoke in an odd way, but it wasn't too terrible.
I did struggle with getting a sense for this book's third rail, there were so many characters (I had trouble keeping the girls straight) and none of the original scenes seemed to be moving the story forward in any organized manner. There were a few things that jerked me out of willing suspension of disbelief, mostly things the adult characters did or said that didn't seem realistic.
About the halfway mark, things picked up though! I knew I liked this author, so I stuck with it because she tells a good story.
While I disagree with some of the theology contained in the book, I do think it is perfectly fine and on the level of YA or younger. :)
The stakes in the story were set very well and it highlighted some important issues for teenagers to think about. Overall, it was a fun ride! I would recommend starting with book two, Twisted Faith, and listened to this one as a prequel.
I received this book for free in order to review.

The Best of the Best
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. Loved this book. This book would be great to use in a teenage school study group. In this time of identifying bullies, the high school primadonna, is a bully (Chelsea). The other group, the God kids, are her, and her group's, target. This story covers the transition or progression of a troubled kid to her introduction and growing faith and the effect of/on her peers. This is a very emotional and informative story. Loved the story, the author and the narrator.

Religious beliefs examined and a simple accident
This story is of teenagers, their beliefs, insecurities and mis-judgement in their ability to monitor their own behavior, in this instance, an example of the over use of caffeine.
An examination of the manner in which a belief in God, and how to best help others find their way to believing, is all interwoven with the lives of High school students and their everyday life dramas.
Also, there is a stark reminder of the excess of drugs and driving can have dior consequences, and it may not just affect the person driving.
I found the first half heavy on the religious messages, but as the tale unfolded, the reason for this becomes clear.

What about Randi Larson’s performance did you like?
The performance was very age-appropriate for YA & was engaging.
Any additional comments?
These are the type of books teens need to be sure & incorporate into their listening and reading repertoire (collection). Choices need guidance & her faith helped guide her through the story.

Story
Paul, a religious teen living in a small conservative town, finds his world turned upside down when he meets Manuel - a young man who says he’s both Christian and gay, two things that Paul didn’t think could coexist in one person. Doesn’t the Bible forbid homosexuality? As Paul struggles with Manuel’s interpretation of the Bible, thoughts that Paul has long tried to bury begin to surface, and he finds himself re-examining his whole life. This is an unforgettable book on an extremely timely topic that strives to open minds on both ends of the spectrum.
