Really for wives, not the guys

Husbands don't bother! Get Love & Respect instead.

Lysa robs Ephesians 5:33 of the 'respect' you need when she suggests you pray for you wife to 'love you in the way you need' just PRAY that your wife will demonstrate respect to you, really! ...if this book was written for men. However, later she quotes other scripture exactly.

Most of the stories and anecdotes are very condemning or demeaning to us guys. Except her own husband! Wow, not very encouraging. This book should have been titled: Men Are Not Good Enough To Be Husbands, Just Ask Your Wife

The only redeeming factor was since I bought this on Audible, I kicked the play speed up!

Sadly, Lysa 'borrows' many ideas from other authors in every chapter.

She justifies women's manipulating behaviors by calling it 'the language of hints' and acknowledges that the point of this language is to get 'what they want', deliberately making communication difficult to test your love. Not OK!

I think women will love this book and buy it for their husbands. Maybe that was the marketing angle.

Honestly, I think the author's heart is in the right place. However, from what I know of her, she writes and speaks for women's conferences, and this book proves it.

Predictable Content, Well - Intended

My wife slipped this into my Audible account which is not a good start. Being open to learning and understanding that I am the least knowledgeable person I know about how women think or feel I gladly listened to the book. Written by a woman, who interviewed a thousand women to get the content for this book, I feel the content is probably an accurate capture of what some women think or feel. It's mixed with fairly typical and predictable Bible Verses about how men are supposed to do "X" or supposed to do "Y" because the bible says so. It doesn't go much deeper into helping a man understand. It stays at the surface level that most mainline churches or pastors will give you a number of times each year, about pursuing the heart of your princess. But if your somewhat thick headed like me, just getting more lace laden guilt written in women's language does almost nothing to actually change the thinking. We know we don't do it right. You tell us this every day. Telling us how to do it or what you need in women's language without helping us have the "ah, hah!" moment doesn't do much to help us help you. Even the title is this subtle method. Becoming the Godly Husband Your Wife Desires... written by a woman, on behalf of women. So women are the authority of what constitutes a Godly Husband. Just ask them. Inside, one of the topics is that women desire the man to be the spiritual head of the household. But women will tell you how to do it and what that means. Admittedly, myself and most men hungry for God do not have all the answers, but women and pastors continually telling us we don't know what we are doing is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not to mention there isn't a single book on Audible about Capturing His Heart. Oh yeah, that's because everyone assumes that men are ONLY driven by testosterone and sex which is such a lie. We actually have hearts and want to be engaged as whole human beings, but how many women and churches and pastors clump us into a box of testosterone?
Overall not bad and I would recommend it. She means well, but you will get a predictable side, much like Gary Smalley who focuses and makes his money by appealing to the women.

Entitled

So many books about husbands being better or whatever, are about coddling women and their sense of entitlement. I read this because I’m about to be married and have studied how to be a good wife so I wanted to read what is out there for men. So glad my fiancé won’t be reading this. God commanded us not to lie - in face, He hates a lying tongue so no, I don’t want my husband lying to me about my weight or how good I look or anything else for that matter. What a joke.

didn't add any value

Positive: short read and broken down into daily sections, written by a wife
Negative: oddly too general, not well researched, sometimes sounds like a wife complaining to other wives about her husband rather than a woman talking to husbands, more like a short daily podcast than a marriage book.
I have gotten much more from of the authors she references in this book (such as Smalley, Dobson or Rainey) than I did from this book.
Not trying to be critical, just saving others like me from waisting time and money. It might be much better in print format.
