Publisher's Summary

A shadow meets the light....

When someone needs to disappear, the Chicago mob calls on Joe Rossi. A man who can move without a sound and kill without a word, they don’t call him the Shadow for nothing. This time, it’s a New York crime family in need of his skills, but it takes one glimpse of her to make him agree to the job.

Liliana Marcello is every inch a principessa della mafia. Her life has taught her to be wary of strangers, yet her ballet career contradicts everything by putting her on display. It’s a man with a dark smile and a constantly changing demeanor that makes her feel safe again, but it’s the unknown that holds her back.

It takes one look.... One dance... One word... One smile to captivate a man. And one second to kill a woman because of it, too.

Not all monsters hide in the shadows. How are you supposed to see them coming?

Good Story and Narration

I think the first review is quite harsh.
For this level of book, it does the job and delivers, so kudos to the author. Don't think "formulaic" or not really matters. It is well written in my humble opinion.
I like the artistic choices of the narrator as well and found his voice and slight accent fitting with the story and an enjoyable listen that pulled me into the story.

Captivating, Exciting and Intense! Well Performed!

This exciting story is a great read on its own. However, when you hear it performed is even more exciting and captivating.
Daniel James Lewis did an amazing job with his performance, and I did really enjoyed listening and feeling as if I was part of the story. Nevertheless, I wish this would have been a dual narration (male & female narrators).

This story has everything you wish from a fantastic read or/and listening experience!!

The minus in the performance it also includes chapter 10 and 11 being duplicates!!

Exciting, intriguing story, with a good narrator

I loved this book! I loved the introverted hit-man with a conscience & the graceful ballerina that had been through so much but still was determined to enjoy life - even as a principessa.

As a hit-man that is exceptionally good at his craft, Joe Rossi prefers to keep to himself & the shadows: get the job done, then get out before anyone ever realises he was even there. When he receives a mysterious summons from the New York outfit, he meets a woman, who, at a first glance, changes his life forever. He doesn't do distractions, but this beautiful, tiny dancer may be just what his heart needs.

After finding passion in ballet late in life for a dancer, Lilliana Marcello is surprised to find herself curious after sharing a glance with a man who undoubtedly is a part of her father's world. Wild horses can't pull them apart but when her past revisits, and she finds out how entrenched in "the life" Joe is, she realises that passion could be found in places and people you never expected.

A really huge part of why I liked the book was the way that Lucien allowed his children to LIVE! They made their own choices, and he supported and avenged them when necessary. I also liked the understanding/relationship that developed between him and Joe. He trusted Joe with Lilliana's safety, but made sure to let him know that he'd have to win her heart all on his own.

Daniel James Lewis does a great job! His accent adds to the allure of the mafia world he described.

Bethany-Kris brings two young adults to life in a way that made me constantly marvel at their maturity. The rich cast of secondary characters as well as the plot made it an intriguing, hard-to-turn-off listen. Most importantly, the book was satisfying, as justice was finally meted out for terrible wrongs committed that had gone unpunished.

I heartily recommend this exciting, steamy, action-filled audio-book.

Fantastic Must Listen To!

I love reading a book but I love listening to a book. I swear I can see and feel everything that is happening on each and every page. This book is so beautifully written that the moment it started with this is a book from audible I was hooked. The narrator Daniel James Lewis did an AMAZING job reading us this mafia love story.

The two main characters Joe and Liliana are both from Mob families and when Joe is asked to come to New York to do a job he meets Liliana and he knows right from the minute they meet that his life is about to change. There is something about that angelic ballerina that calls to Joe in a way he has never known. He is so sexy, smart, loving and everything in between and them some. He is ferocious in protecting Liliana and I loved that about him.

Liliana oh man she is a princessa but she is not stuck up and snotty. She is loving and caring and loves to dance on stage. She knows that is not going to be her career but she is enjoying it while she can. When she meets Joe she is done for. Her heart beats fast and she knows she has to have him. The love scenes between these two were steamy and I needed a glass a very tall glass of ice because they were off the charts. Plus I loved when Joe spoke italian to her.

This is a must read love story that does not come easily for them. They have to work at their relationship and they have their ups and downs but when they work together they make the perfect couple.

Delicious!

Amount of sex 3 / 5
How explicit is the sex scenes 3 / 5
Story 4.5 / 5
Overall: 4.5 / 5

Captivated is a steamy standalone romance written by author Bethany - Kris. I listened to this story on audio, which was narrated by Daniel James Lewis. I especially enjoyed the narrator’s accent, but I could not pin down the exact type of accent. It seemed similar to a Boston accent, which I thought went perfectly with this mafia romance. Mr. Lewis voiced the characters well, and I quickly became engrossed in the story.

Captivated tells the story of Joe Rossi, who is a member of the Chicago mob. Joe and his father travel to NY City to meet with the head of the New York Mob. They offer Joe a job which requires him to stay in NY for some time. While there, he gets to know Liliana Marcello, the daughter of the boss and a principal ballet dancer.

The story was fascinating, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book. The sex scenes were steamy, and I truly enjoyed Joe’s dominance. He was definitely a delicious anti-hero and I loved when he spoke Italian.

A definite add to your TBR list.

Loved it! 4 Suspenseful Dreamy Stars 😍

Listening to an audiobook can be hit or miss for me. The benefit of listening to a book is you can multitask. It has to be a good narrator telling an equally good story. Thankfully Captivated was a hit, to the extent I enjoyed it more than when i read the book. Daniel James Lewis brings Joseph and Liliana to life in a way that resonated with the way I had “heard” the characters when I read the book. He has a clear diction which initially sounded too polished. I even tried listening to him at a faster speed but it didn’t take long at all to adjust to his style.

For readers who haven’t read Captivated yet, it is the story of two mafia families drawn together out of need. In town to provide assistance to the Marcello family, Joe meets up with Liliana Marcello. She is Lucian’s ballerina daughter who captivates the attention of the man known as the Ghost. Circumstances demands Joe keep his relationship with Liliana at a respectable distance. Of course love knows no boundaries in romance novels!

I thought the narrator was fantastic overall except for the way he pronounced the names Marcello and Rossi. Minor differences, but having grown up with a mother who corrected any attempts I had at referring to Italian names or words, my eyes almost popped out of my head. Maybe that’s just the dialect we are familiar with and it is a variation born out of local influences.

Apart from that, the narrator brought every character to life, moving between changes of dialog with ease. Even his feminine voices were believable. Rich came across as whiny, which suited his character. Fortunately he’s a minor character and as such you barely have to listen to him!

Listening to Joe and Liliana’s story kept me on the edge of my seat. When I read the book I found the story to be on the quiet side, but having it read to me I experienced a fast paced, captivating story that I found every excuse to tune into. Whether that was listening while I went for a walk, tending to housework or cooking a meal, every possible moment to wear my headphones was embraced!

I adored Joe’s respect for Liliana and observing the protocol for asking permission to take their relationship to the next level. A wonderful testament to the quality of writing from an author who keeps my reading and listening addiction well fed!

the story held you

I was captivated by this one. I got a very good narrator with a story that lured me in to the dark world of crime, problem solving, beauty, her smile, her dance. Bethany-Kris brings the dirty, dirty to the pages of romance. She builds a quality story behind the darkness. Her story had life on its own but with the quality of the narrator you can see the images in your head and still do you daily chores.

Fantastic

Liliana turned into someone else, too, when she danced. Some kind of human-angel hybrid moving across the stage with the kind of grace and beauty he hadn't quite seen before... It was amazing. She was beautiful.

I loved Joe and Liliana's story , what a lovely romance.Joe fall in love with Liliana the moment he first laid eyes on her. One glance and he was pretty much head over heels. Liliana likewise couldn’t seem to break his mesmerizing stare or control the chemistry that constantly sizzled between them. They are intense and passionate.I couldn't get enough of these two!

The title is so perfect for this one because truly it was a captivated story!

Enjoyable Romantic Suspense With A Twist !

Let's start off by saying that this is a new author for us and we are really enjoying her stories.

I really enjoyed this tale it was griping suspenseful and a really great love story.I have to say I really loved the main characters Joe and Liliana were complete opposites yet fit each other so well. One thing they do have in common is that they are are both from powerful crime families.

Liliana's career as a ballet dancer keeps her very busy which keeps her away from the family business although she is not naive about her father and brother's she is not privy to how they conduct their business and I really feel she doesn't really know just how powerful and dangerous they really are.

Liliana and Joe form and instant connection he to is from a Mafia family based in Chicago. This story reminded me a little bit of the story Beauty and the Beast.

I loved the chemistry and the connection that was their between these to as they made a cute couple their courtship was somewhat of a train wreck waiting to happen yet ,they were super sexy and hot together when they came together for some hot and dirty sex. lol Joe is keeping secrets their entire courtship first because it was family business and then to protect her.How do your court the girl you are crazy about without her realizing in actuality you are guarding her and not just a job ?

I have to say that I haven't really read a lot of the Mafia romance gene but, I have to say that the story kept me interested and turning the pages until the very end.The story had a great cast of characters and some twists and turns and a few surprises.

I loved both Liliana and Joe from the onset of the story but, Joe became my favorite character this time around.Joe just kept surprising me at every turn because he kept doing things out of his comfort zone and out of character for him and also kept straying from the plan and then gets involved with finding out more about the job he was hired to do things he never ever does. The cool and collected man is everything but, as Liliana has him totally off his game. Lol
"Grinning"

Overall we enjoyed this story as I found the characters to be love-able,intriguing,mysterious and that it had just the right amount of drama and suspense .I also loved the author style of writing and would love to read more books by her and will have to start with one of her mafia series for sure.

We loved it !

Great mafia romance and narration.

Joe Rossi is on a business trip in New York City. It’s no ordinary trip because Joe doesn’t work in an ordinary business. He’s a part of the Chicago mob and he’s been offered a job by the New York mob. As he’s in the city on an extended stay he begins to get to know a beautiful and shy ballerina, Liliana. She also happens to be the daughter of the New York boss.

This story was great. It was exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat nearly the whole time. I love how captivated Joe is by Liliana. Their passion and his dominance were red-hot! Don’t even get me started on his dirty taking ways. *drool*

Narration was done by Daniel James Lewis and he does a good job. His accent throughout was slight, but fit the story well. I quickly found myself lost to the narration and story. Would definitely recommend this to lovers of fast-paced mafia romances with great narration.

good narrators ...bad story

the book has no substance. Hero meets heroine and one look he is pledging everything. no getting deeper slowly. No love but. Deep stuff in a very shallow and fast pace. stupid and boring.
