David Collings IS M.R. James!

His voice is perfect. One can picture oneself in James' study with a glass of port and the requisite tobacco as he relates one of his classic tales. Of which this is one of my all-time favorites!

Really excellent period horror

If you like horror from the Victorian/Edwardian period, you will enjoy this. Has typical assumptions for the time period (anti Catholicism, anti French sentiment, etc.) I enjoyed it tremendously but just keep in mind the context and persuasion of the author and main character as the rational intrepid English gentleman traveller.
