Publisher's Summary

When Hurricane Leo threatens Florida's Camino Island, the Governor is quick to issue an evacuation order. Most residents flee but a small group of die-hards decide to ride it out. Amongst them is Bruce Cable, proprietor of Bay Books in downtown Santa Rosa.

The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are levelled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded and a dozen people are killed. One of the victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce's who wrote timely political thrillers. But evidence suggests that the storm wasn't the cause of Nelson's death - he had received several mysterious blows to the head.

Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed with the aftermath of the storm and in no condition to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson’s novels were more fact than fiction. And somewhere in Nelson's computer is the manuscript of his new novel - could the key to the case be right there in black and white? Bruce starts to look into it and what he finds between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson's plot twists - and far more dangerous.

Grisham at his best!

Great thriller, with momentum building up with each chapter.
Michael Beck as usual is a great story teller

I' liked it

Not his best work but I liked it. A good story line. No suspense in the story but decent all the same

Pass

Love Grisham. But this is my first Grisham audiobook and it was terrible. Narration is not good at all and does nothing to assist the slow storyline. Sloppy.

Slow but entertaining

Struggled to finish. It was very slow paced . Didn't enjoy the voice and accents of the reader.

Good story, shocking narrator

I love Grisham stories, but this is the first audiobook I stopped listening to after just 30-minutes.
Just the worst narrator, trying to do female voices. Sounded like something from the muppets. Get a better narrator and I will re-purchase.

Humdrum

I purchased this book on a 'daily deal' and because it completes the story
in the previous Camino book.
I feel that this book is a little pedestrian, unfortunately, especially for this author.

Tone deaf for female fans

Although I enjoyed the story on a whole, I can't help but notice how Grisham objectified any female character.
I've since learned this is typical of his writing, however it irked me enough to ruin the book. Lesson learned... no more Grisham for me.

I really can’t believe how bad this book is

John Grisham is such a wonderful author normally, but this book is woeful

Didn’t rate the narrator either - so annoying

Engaging with many plot twists.

Great story. I found the complex nature of the different characters and their interactions compelling.

Bad narration and objectification of women

The story was okay but it was slow and boring at times. I got really impatient towards the end of the book and struggled to finish. ( this may have been because the characters were annoying and unlikable).
The narration was terrible at times, especially with some of the female characters. This, along with the sexist, objectification of women, made it creepy and hard to listen to.

Feeble predictable ending

Great plot with a lot of detail. But the ending was rather weak. Well read.
