Upon arriving at her late Aunt Nancy's home in Calamity Corners, Nann is met with the odd sight of a mischievous pig, Pokey, toting a toilet seat. As she sets out to establish her bookstore in Cemetery Center—an unlikely business hub, to be sure—she discovers it's not just about books and rent.
Her neighboring shop is an art gallery owned by Zinnia, who harbors a full-moon secret. Werewolf? Not quite. And then there's the town's sole car mechanic, Tink, sporting inexplicably Spock-like ears. Elevate to the third floor of Nann's building, and you'll find men having casual beer gatherings around a peculiar centerpiece: a coffin. Whispers suggest affiliations with the VHS, but is it the Vampire Hunter Society or the Van Helsing Society? The mysteries deepen.
Nann is more than just an ordinary newcomer. She’s a Druid witch, successor to her Aunt Nancy, coming not only to inherit a home but to continue the legacy of the family bookstore. Her quirky sidekick, Pokey, previously Aunt Nancy’s magical familiar, communicates through radio frequencies—yielding either an indignant, red-eyed swine or a cuddly, affection-seeking piglet.
But as young men begin vanishing from neighboring towns, Nann suspects a magical malevolence at play. Could Tink, the elvish mechanic, have sinister motives? Is Zinnia’s shapeshifting side more carnivorous than one might think? Or does the coffin conceal a nocturnal nemesis? As Nann dives deeper, she realizes she's not just a suspect in the eyes of the town—she's potential prey.
To unravel the enigma, Nann must locate her aunt's arcane books. But as she delves into the spells and stories of her family, she finds herself at a crossroads, with threats looming from every corner.
