Publisher's Summary

Rome, AD 37. The emperor is dying. No-one knows how long he has left. The power struggle has begun.

When the ailing Tiberius thrusts Caligula's family into the imperial succession in a bid to restore order, he will change the fate of the empire and create one of history's most infamous tyrants, Caligula.

But was Caligula really a monster?

Forget everything you think you know. Let Livilla, Caligula's youngest sister and confidante, tell you what really happened. How her quiet, caring brother became the most powerful man on earth.

And how, with lies, murder and betrayal, Rome was changed forever....

Simply brilliant

I have long been a fan of Simons work, and he continues to write great works like this. Caligula provides a stunning alternative view of the young emperor in a tale of deceit, backstabbing and even Plotting Praetorians!

Couldn't stop listening

I adored this book, the narrator is perfect for this and really engages with the story. I stumbled across this book by chance, I'm so glad I did, well worth a listen and I can't wait for the next book. I hope there is one on Nero in the works.

An enjoyable read of a brilliantly written book

This story was excellently told, with poise and style. The description flows and the era is brought beautifully to life.

The narrator does a fine job of bringing the people and places to life in a great read.

Brilliant defence what one would’ve thought was the undefeandable

As a lawyer, and a fan of Roman history I thought it was a brave task to try and defend guy is, but they also did it well did it accurately and in a very interesting way. For me caligula has always represented, how logical madness really is and that’s what the book demonstrates. If we live the life path of guy is Julius Caesar Germanicus how would we react, we might just do the same or very close to a brilliant work
