Publisher's summary

An awkward girl's account of inexperience, sexual mishaps, and too much tequila....

Needing a change, Rayne Meyers, aka Calamity Rayne, sets out to be a personal assistant for one of the wealthiest families in the world. What could possibly go wrong? Inexperienced with sophisticated settings, she does her best not to screw things up too severely, except there's one complication she didn't foresee: her boss' devastatingly charming son, Hale Davenport.

Hale is everything Rayne is not. He's experienced, mature, and methodical about every part of his life. But when he meets his father's new assistant, a woman nothing like the calculating females he's used to, he is captivated and prepared to throw caution to the wind. Turns out, slightly awkward and sometimes silly sex might be exactly what his love life's been missing and everything his heart didn't see coming.

Great read

Nice balance between a well developed story line and steamy content. The narrator was one of the best I've heard!

A Wonderfully Delightful RomCom! Fabulous Listen🎧

I loved this book, the story is entertaining and captivated my attention from start to end. Lydia Michaels is a gifted author, this is my fourth of hers and it was great to see another side of her creative mind. In addition to some great humor and witty banter and dialogue it contains a lot of heart. The characters are likable, easy to relate to and connect with. Rayne Meyers became one of my favorite characters, she was a train wreck at times, had no filter at other times, an honest and good person. She winds up taking a job that takes her out of her comfort zone due to her lack of experience, not only job wise but life wise too. But she wings it and tries to make it work, but her boss, Remington Davenport, is not the nicest person or the easiest to get along with but Rayne does not let that get to her. And then there is his some, Hale Davenport, a good looking charmer. Hale had the wrong impression about her at first but she turned out to be nothing like he thought. I loved these two together, they were so different from each other, worlds apart in so many ways, yet they were perfect together and for each other. While we do see parts of Hale’s human side I felt she brought more of that out of him. I even like the bond Rayne developed with Remington, though I can not say he had much of a human side, LOL. This book is an enjoyable delight, the story is beautifully plotted and there is never a dull moment. There is drama, humor, heartfelt and emotional moments and a charming romance. Lydia Michaels, thank you for this wonderful story, I loved where you took these characters with the continual growth throughout the story. I am looking forward to what comes next for them and hope the books comes to Audible soon.

I listened to the Audible edition, Ashley Trumpler was the perfect narrator to bring these characters and their story to life. She does an awesome job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving each their own voice and personality. She sets the perfect tone for the story and handles the witty dialogue with ease. You could hear how much heart she puts into her work as she captures the characters emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Rayne is a fun and funny character and you just can’t help but love her! Her inner voice is so fun! And with a name like Calamity Rayne what could go wrong in a world you know nothing about. Nice narration.

laugh out loud fun

I laughed a lot while listening to this book. Calamity Rayne trials and tribulations reminded me of a comedy of errors. The book was so well written and Calamity Rayne was aptly named. The narration was done well and did the story justice. Listening to this book was a lot of fun and well needed after an angsty listen.

Meet Rayne and the Davenports

I didn’t read the e-book I purchased but, instead, listened to the audiobook version provided by the author and can honestly say I’m very happy to leave my review. Let me start by saying that I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to audiobook narrators, so I was a bit nervous about listening versus reading one of Ms. Michaels’ books. I was relieved and happy to discover that Ashley Trumpler did a phenomenal job narrating, which definitely added to my enjoyment of the story. Rayne Meyers, the awkward 30-year-old main character of the story did not automatically win me over. She frustrated me with her complete incapacity to filter what came out of her mouth in certain situations. I felt that as a 30-year-old former school teacher, she should have had more life experience and maturity. With that said, she slowly won me over with her random, funny thoughts about herself and others. I loved her relationship with her best friend, Elle and her friend, Tyler, but found her relationship with her mom awkward. Her nickname, Calamity, certainly fit starting from the beginning, to her interview for the Personal Assistant position to the very wealthy, but injured, Remington Davenport, and then with everyone else she encounters, including his dashing, handsome, eldest son, Hale, and Hale’s “hot” brother, Barrett. I loved how Rayne’s and Hale’s relationship developed and came to love Hale much quicker than I did Rayne. As is the case with most wealthy families, there’s lots of drama and secrets to contend with, and Hale’s secret could damage his relationship with Rayne. There were quite a few surprises in this story, but one I was not expecting came at the end when I heard these three words: “to be continued”. I literally screamed “no!”, then immediately made sure I purchased book 2. All in all, a fabulous read, or as in this case – listen – and I highly recommend to all romance or rom-com fans. I’ve come to the conclusion that Lydia Michaels just can’t write a bad story. Enjoy!

The talents of Lydia Michaels!

This is the second title I have listened to by Lydia Michaels and I am so impressed with her versatility. This first was a beautifully written romance, and now I am laughing through the marvelous romcom! Calamity Rayne is the perfect way to spend a couple of days in the life of Rayne. She is finding her way, a little immature, and what I love about her the most is her inability to filter what comes out of her mouth. I love characters like this! She just makes me laugh! When she meets Hale Davenport, she could not have met a more opposite man, but he is smitten with her. These two bond immediately and it is charming the way the two change and are effected by each other. This is a real testament to Michaels writing. She has me laughing, sometimes annoyed but completely endeared by this story! It's got fantastic secondary characters(like Remington Davenport) and just had my earbuds stuck in my ears! Now to get the second book lined up, as this one does leave us hanging! More adventures with Rayne may be just what we need to get us through the winter!

Ashley Trumpler gives an outstanding performance. Spot on comedic timing and fabulous voices keep the story flowing. It's my first listen by her and she is one I will definitely be watching for in the future!

Calamity Rayne Gets a Life

This book had me giggling quite a few times with Rayne’s antics and the fact that she just can’t get out of her head. I think this may be one of my favorite characters I have read so far this year and after the way this book ended I really hope the next will be soon.

Fun, sexy, laugh out loud, but with a cliffhanger

Rayne is socially inept, immature, sexually inexperienced 30 year old. She wants an adventure, she gets it with the Davenports. Leaving Oregon to become a personal assistant to THE Remington Davenport, the brash, obnoxious, filthy rich patriarch of the family.
He is challenging, demanding, exhausting. She is thrown into the lifestyle of the rich and famous for which she is unaccustomed to. Along with Remington, the crew, his handsome son, Hale, they yacht down the east coast to his home in Florida. Rayne keeps telling herself, " I'm the help I can't get involved with his son. " But she and Hale both eventually give in to their attraction to each other. Their romance is sexy, flirty, fun.
Lydia Michaels story is fun, emotional, laugh out loud and with some tears. She gives Rayne a great personality unlike what the Davenports are used to. She's a breath of fresh air to their stoic life. She lets us into the mind and conscience Rayne. Sometimes her crazy thoughts ends up being verbal garbage she blurts out unexpectedly, which makes it for some tense, laugh out loud moments.
There's plenty of angst, misunderstandings, mind games, secrets, insecurities, fun, twists, add an unexpected heart wrenching cliffhanger.
Ashley Trumpler totally made this a fun story. I can't express how much an entertaining narrator she is. She really brought this story to life! She captured every emotion, every voice. Every character's personality was perfection! She flawlessly transitioned from one character to another. Thank you for the great listen! I wish i could give 10 stars.
