Julia Horowitz was too young to drive, but that didn't stop her and her best friend Ken from going on the joyride that would kill him and leave her with a permanent neck burn. Convalescence is different than she imagined: For the first time in her life, unpopular Julia finds that she holds power that was never possible before. As she decides who she'll be post-accident, without Ken, she struggles to figure out what it means to be a survivor and to do the right thing.

On one hand, Julie is complaining about how her classmates treated Ken and her by association, but given the first chance after the accident, she runs off to her bully's party. And the parents? Why is the girl allowed out of the house except for school? She was irresponsible and someone died. I am a bit confused about that thought. The synopsis reads that Julie was driving but it seems Ken was. Is this about a lesbian finallly getting close to her crush, grief for her best friend, and awkward sister, worried push-over parents? What?

This was well written but not very cohesive.
