In Pelican, Louisiana, Valentine's Day has a way of warming the heart. But the air at Crozat Plantation B&B turns frigid when celebrity chef Phillippe Chanson checks in. And when the arrogant Phillippe perishes in a fiery boat crash, Maggie Crozat's dear friend JJ lands in very cold water.

Did JJ, proprietor of Junie's Oyster Bar and Dance Hall, murder Phillippe because he feared the competition? Might Maggie's mother, Ninette, have bumped off the chef for stealing one of her cherished recipes? Or was the culprit a local seafood vendor, miffed because Phillippe was somehow able to sell oysters for a remarkably reasonable price?

Maggie had planned to devote her February to art lessons in New Orleans. But now she has to focus on helping her friend and her mother cross a murder charge off the menu. Meanwhile, Maggie receives a series of anonymous gifts that begin as charming but grow increasingly disturbing. Does Maggie have an admirer-or a stalker? And are these gifts somehow related to Phillippe's murder?

Blood may be thicker than water, but this case is thicker than gumbo. And solving it will determine whether Maggie gets hearts and roses-or hearse and lilies-this Valentine's Day.

I have enjoyed the series. Easy listen and entertaining. My only "complaint" is how the voices of some characters changed throughout the series. For example in books 6 and 7 the tones of Ninette and Ionia changed so their characters seemed off and like another person from which we have come to know.

Good Series

The narrator could have done better with pronunciation of several Cajun names but really enjoyed these stories!

Really enjoyed how much the author clearly appreciates the unique culture of Louisiana

It sounds like this is the last book in this series. I have enjoyed it and the ending was perfect.

I picked up the first book for free on audible and was immediately hooked. It's a really fun listen with a likable cast of characters. I enjoyed the first book so much that I got all the books in the series right away.
The performance was wonderful, even with a change in narrator. Although there were clearly 2 distinct styles in performance, the flow between the 2 worked, not detracting from the story at all.
Each book offered a new mystery while slowly transforming the relationships of the main characters. The author addressed current topics with a subtle eloquence that immediately focused on the "wrongness" of the belief and then through the main character she made clear that the situation needed to be corrected. I don't want to give anything away so I am a little vague here.
Basically, I really enjoyed the series, I love the Louisiana location and I can't recommend it enough.

I enjoyed it so much I'll probably listen again, .
