In "a solid account of what appears to be a shocking injustice" an award-winning journalist uncovers the bias that led to a woman's conviction for murder (The New York Times).

When a prominent Alabama doctor is brutally killed, his wife and her twin sister are charged with conspiracy to murder. But while her twin was acquitted of the crime, Betty Wilson was charged with killing her husband.

Probing into a trial that deliberated on Betty's promiscuity, her alcoholism, and her adulterous affair with a black man rather than any physical evidence against her, critically acclaimed journalist Jim Schutze reveals how sex, politics, and corruption could possibly have led to a scandalous miscarriage of justice that kept the real killer from facing full penalty for his cold-blooded deed. A fascinating true crime account, By Two and Two is a must-listen investigation into the harrowing details of a sensational murder case.

Contains mature themes.

The author was fantastic in his incredible research into a very complicated story, Hr was brave in his declaration of the truth, fair & honest in his coverage & wrote a page turning book from start to finish!
The narrator, also, was great with his perfect voice & emotional tones while telling the story of the twins and the murder.
It is an eye opening look into our criminal justice system that many of us know but continue to look the other way. Often, we complain only in safe environments, while failing to do anything to make a difference. Guilty walk free, while innocent are convicted, doesn’t hold the injustice it should due to we are not looking at anyone in our circle of family or friends. If it did, our actions would likely be very different, appalled.
I wish Betty’s truth to be heard & would support any cause on her behave. I stayed up all night to continue listening because the book is just that good! If the author came to Denver, I’d stand in long lines to get a copy of his book & value his signature on it. I have great respect & admiration for him, as I do the twins.
Simply, a must read.

Excellent in every way

I'm convinced, after reading this, Betty Wilson was the victim of two detectives who decided what the outcome was and then laid out the facts to get the result. The prosecutor, instead of seeking Justice, did what most prosecutors do; they went for the win. She's innocent.
