Burt Reynolds
Burt Reynolds has been a Hollywood leading man for six decades, known for his legendary performances, sex-symbol status, and storied Hollywood romances. In his long career of stardom, during which he was number one at the box office for five years in a row, Reynolds has seen it all. But Enough About Me will tell his story through the people he’s encountered on his amazing journey. In his words, he plans to “call out the assholes,” try to make amends for “being the asshole myself on too many occasions,” and pay homage to the many heroes he has come to love and respect.
Beginning with Reynolds’s adolescence as a notable football player and the devastating car accident that ended his sports career, But Enough About Me takes readers from the Broadway stages where Reynolds got his start to his subsequent rise to fame. From Oscar nominations, to the spread in Cosmopolitan magazine that remains a notorious pop-cultural touchstone to this day, to the financial decisions that took him from rich to poor and back again, Reynolds shares the wisdom that has come from his many highs and lows. He is also ready, now more than ever, to dish. Reynolds famously romanced Dinah Shore, Sally Field, and Loni Anderson, to name only the top few; batted eyes at Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Goldie Hawn, Farrah Fawcett, Marilyn Monroe, Candice Bergen, and so many more; went a few rounds (or more) with the likes of Donald Trump and Helen Gurley Brown; and rubbed elbows with Jon Voight, Clark Gable, Clint Eastwood, Frank Sinatra, Orson Welles, Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, and Johnny Carson, among many others. Through it all, Reynolds reflects on his personal pitfalls and recoveries and refocuses his attention on his legacy as a father and an acting teacher, leaving readers with a classic from one of Hollywood’s most enduring and treasured stars.

It was good enough that I'm going to try to finish it using my headphones but it would have been fun to share it with my husband.

Humble and real

There are insights into some of his experiences in Hollywood. Both with people and with the process of actually making films.
As to the insights into his private life. I would say the reader should also read Loni Anderson's book "My Life in High Heels. And they make up your own mind. A marriage is always two people, and if those two people part, there's always more than one take on what went on. So, while I really did enjoy this book and would highly recommend it. You have to remember it is ALL from Burt's point of view. And some things that don't match his narrative have been known for a long time.
I had a lot of fun listening to this book. Twice!
It was great to hear Burt in his own words.

What did you love best about But Enough About Me?
To not only get Burt Reynold's words in his book into your head but his voice as well... One of his finest performances. Whatever you may think of Reynolds, who proved his acting chops in Deliverance, The Longest Yard, and Boogie Nights as well as his comedy performances as guest host of the Tonight Show and the Smokey and The Bandit movies, this book goes much deeper. Using every chapter as a miniature biography, it's like Burt's own Wikipedia page on legends of screen, sports, stage, and television. Who else but Burt could tell you intimate stories and asides from the likes of Spencer Tracy, Betty Davis, Lee Marvin, the Rat Pack, and others of Hollywood's Golden age? He even went up to Mae West's room one night! (SPOILER ALERT!) Some things are glossed over, and Burt gets notably angry when discussing tabloids or certain people from his past, but that's what makes this audiobook so human. We get a portrait of the man and see both his ego and his weaknesses in what convinced me was his honest assessment of the truth. I never caught him acting, and when he gets emotional bringing up dear departed friends like Dom DeLuise and DInah Shore, you get choked up right with him. If Paul Thomas Anderson and Archer made Burt cool again, the only thing for me that would blow it would be if the book got into religion or politics, which are always left on the sidelines in this book. I think that's classy. Burt's knowledge of the acting process is interesting as well so this is a great book for actors. A great listen.Burt should get an Oscar for this Audibook
