Publisher's Summary

From Karin Slaughter comes a fast and furious tale in which no one is quite who they seem. This electrifying novella featuring Will Trent is a prequel to Slaughter's novel Unseen, a New York Times best seller.

Detective Will Trent is standing in a Georgia convenience store, waiting on an obstinate ICEE frozen-drink machine. To the surveillance cameras and bored staff of the Lil' Dixie Gas-n-Go, however, Will appears to besome one very different - the menacing ex-con Bill Black. Going undercover as Bill, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent is about to infiltrate the most corrupt town in the most corrupt county in the new American South. But first: his ICEE.

Everything changes in one horrific instant, as all hell breaks loose at the Lil' Dixie. A cop is shot. A bag of cash goes flying across the floor. A young woman disappears while a killer takes off in a battered pickup truck. Within seconds, Will is in pursuit.

Busted while laughing out loud

I enjoyed the storyline and the great punchlines as well. The audio kept me laughing for two hours while working.

Love Karin's work and love to hear Kathleen read!

Big fan of karins and will trent so maybe I'm biased. Any story about will I love and little hits in between novels are just precious. Busted is like that - a perfect snack that leaves you satisfied but not too small that you want more (right away anyway). Karin's stories are well, the perfect snack.

And when Kathleen Early reads them - it's the cherry on top!

My only complaint - karin, I loved Coptown but I need my will and Sarah?! Now I hear there is another off topic novel for 2015? What's up??!!

Enjoy Busted - I did

A fun story if you like Will Trent!

I will listen to anything by Karen Slaughter, I have been reading and now listening to her books for years and know and love all her characters like my own family. This is a short story where Will is just in the wrong place at that wrong time, follows the many twists and solves the crime. Fun listen!

Audacious and Hilarious

Karin Slaughter spun a fun tale of deceit and small town shenanigans. Our favorite GBI agent, Will Trent gets into another crazy situation while undercover just by stopping for an Icee.

Not worth using a credit :(

One credit or $9.95 seems steep for a novella that is just over two hours long. I love the Will Trent series though so I went for it. The plot was very confusing- way too many characters- and while it started with potential (Will undercover as an ex-con) that part of the storyline went by the wayside and wasn't even picked back up as a teaser for the next book. Sarah Linton was not a part of this story other than one gratuitous mention. This novella was like watching a one hour episode of the A Team. It filled some time with some shooting and a motorcycle chase but was essentially unfulfilling.

not her best work

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I bought this thinking it would add to the series in an interesting way.. It was so boring and the performance made me feel like she was yelling the entire novella.

Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?

sure, because i have really enjoyed her other books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

just seems annoyingly loud and brash

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

not much

As always, entertaining Karin Slaughter novella

Busted is a quick and entertaining read featuring clever Will Trent. The story is about Will caught in the cross-hairs of a gas station convenience store robbery when he stops for his weakness, a slurpee. The story takes physical and metaphorical twists and turns and is a great listen,

Fallen Dark Horse, Indian Classic

What did you love best about Busted?

I purchased as I love the Will Trent character, but I can’t take the gruesome details of author’s writing. I was counting on very few gruesome descriptions in this story, and was rewarded. One or two small ones that you can tune out.
Weak stomach here!, but author can really tell a tale.
This is an expensive read so get it on sale. It is so well done if you like short story formats, think Ernest Hemingway’s telegram style. You can’t be multitasking as you will have to rewind.
I did buy, great reader’s Natalie Ross, Undone and Broken from this author about 6 years ago, and those 2 stories still haunt me if I even think about this author. Pure terror if you like a great mystery which includes it.
Knowing I will be terrified to death, I still want to purchase Unseen as, I want more of Will Trent. (I could care less about Lena etc.) If you love this author, and reading out of order, Undone is the best!

What did you like best about this story?

I wanted to see if author has evolved from so much terror in her reads and to check out Ms Early as I am a big fan in her Rachel Gibson reads, I own all.
This story shows off author’s great talent to write in short story formate, use core characters, and make you want to buy her work. However, if you don’t know this format, you can feel cheated. So beware.

What does Kathleen Early bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If you love to listen to Ms Early, but don’t want the gruesome terror of Ms Slaughter, then check out Rachel Gibson, Rescue me. That is a light hearted book that truly shows off Ms Early’s full range talent. Ms Early does a great job on all of author Gibson’s work.
