25 Steps to Found and Scale a High-Growth Business

The Startup Checklist is the entrepreneur's essential companion. While most entrepreneurship books focus on strategy, this invaluable guide provides the concrete steps that will get your new business off to a strong start. You'll learn the ins and outs of startup execution, management, legal issues, and practical processes throughout the launch and growth phases and how to avoid the critical missteps that threaten the foundation of your business. Instead of simply referring you to experts, this discussion shows you exactly which experts you need, what exactly you need them to do, and which tools you will use to support them - and you'll gain enough insight to ask smart questions that help you get your money's worth. If you're ready to do big things, this book has you covered from the first business card to the eventual exit.

Over two-thirds of startups are built on creaky foundations, and over two-thirds of startup costs go directly toward cleaning up legal and practical problems caused by an incomplete or improper start. This book helps you sidestep the messy and expensive cleanup process by giving you the specific actions you need to take right from the very beginning.

  • Understand the critical intricacies of legally incorporating and running a startup
  • Learn which experts you need and what exactly you need from them
  • Make more intelligent decisions independent of your advisors
  • Avoid the challenges that threaten to derail great young companies

The typical American startup costs over $30,000 and requires working with over two dozen professionals and service providers before it even opens for business - and the process is so complex that few founders do it correctly. Their startups' errors often go unnoticed until the founder tries to seek outside capital, at which point they can cost thousands of dollars to fix...or even completely derail an investment. The Startup Checklist helps you avoid these problems and lay a strong foundation, so you can focus on building your business.

Not good as an Audiobook

I don't think that this book is good as an Audiobook. It would be better off just being the traditional textbook - either hard or soft copy.

The narration was done by the author and I must say it's not really pleasing to listen to. The voice is somewhat unclear and the reading was too fast.

If I were the author of the book, I wouldn't have agreed to have this book served as an audiobook because I know that the text version is a must for this book that relies heavily on diagrams and such.

Lesson learned? Always listen to the sample and make use of the take a look inside whenever possible before buying the audiobook.

Checked all the boxes

As a former executive now turned startup CEO I found this audio highly informative. So much so that I listened to the entire audio twice in two weeks.

Good listen besides advertising & missing appendix

The book is good material but a llittle pitchy. The author owns a company that he seems to sneak into most of the lists of companies that he provides as "useful resources" but only once discloses that he owns the company. He also refers to an appendix saying that all of the resources that are referred to in the book are in a concise list, however this list is not available for the audio book as a chapter that is read or download from the audible or any other site as most audio books have with this type of material. But I do think that a list in the appendix or provided as a static resource from Audible would be outdated very quickly. So maybe have the material available from a source that could be updated like a website.

Very basic

The info is very basic and is more organized around the general process of growing a startup. Not the specific steps to take to succeed in a startup, or how other companies have found success. Also, it is heavily focused on the steps involved in obtaining financing. Finally, the narration is way too fast.

Too hard to listen too

The book might be a gem, but this is totally impossible to listen to. The author is reading it himself, and it’s painfully dry and monotone. I’ve listened to dozens of startup books, both good and bad, but this is the first one I simply wasn’t able to finish. Id recommend buying this book if you are interested in the content. This audio version sucks.
