Negotiate successfully!

Are you aware that almost everything is negotiable?

Negotiation is a skill that can bring you vast success in all aspects of your life. When you're a skilled negotiator, you can get the best possible price on everything you purchase or sell, and you can deal with salespeople or clients.

We're all negotiating all the time in all kinds of everyday situations: parents negotiating with their children; employees negotiating with each other, with subordinates, with bosses; customers negotiating with salespeople or service providers. And with The Secrets of Power Negotiating, you'll always have the upper hand in every negotiating situation in which you find yourself.

For example, the program gives you specific ways to:

  • Get the best possible price when you buy or sell a house, a car, a business, real estate, or any negotiable item.
  • Get a raise or promotion.
  • Keep employees happy without giving in to unreasonable demands.
  • Get a new and better deal with your landlord or mortgage loan officer.
  • Stop being stonewalled by store clerks, petty bureaucrats, service and repair people, and others.
  • Get more cooperation from your corporate peers and subordinates.
  • Get bigger loans and better terms from your banker.
  • Uncover valuable "hidden information."
  • Be more confident in virtually any interpersonal situation.
  • Plus many other situations you run into in your daily life.

Dated but still highly relevant!

Some references might cause some to get distracted given this was written quite a few years ago but all of his points are very valid and make you think twice about your past negotiations and how you can do things differently and more effectively.

Very Helpful

This helped me pick out things that I was not doing in the past during negotiations. I know now to categorize people as well as different tactics that have been used on me.

No jargon and practical engaging book

Book explains negotiation in way to cleaner and non jargon way. Enjoyed the whole book without a word like BATNA.
The explanation of personality types is also clean and simple to understand. Though I feel a little more detailed approach to personality types would have made this an invaluable book.

Overall, the book is good text book in a nice narration style with a pinch of practical examples and case studies.
👍 Thumbs up.

Does Not Get Any Better

My job involves negotiating with unions. One might consider the union negotiators as uneducated and crude. In truth, the ones I have dealt with are highly sophisticated albeit it in a common manner. I “discovered” Roger Dawson years ago after listening and reading other authors’ negotiating techniques. Dawson’s approach is ‘street smart’. I quickly realized that what was being done to me by union negotiators was exactly what Roger explained. Besides the street smart, what differentiated Roger was he included the counter to the gambit. I got a lot better at job. I cannot recommend Roger Dawson highly enough.

Awesome Narration

Everything that I would ever want from an 80's business book. Even the music is great.

Take your negotiating skills to the next level

Any additional comments?

The book its self is short, however, they have added some additional content from his other work.
