Publisher's Summary

In this audio edition of the totally revised underground best seller, The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business, from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed, and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business. After you have listened to The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

Saved my Life

I am a small business owner just like the woman he describes in the book. After listening for 20 minutes I felt hope for my business, by the end of the book I had a plan in action to turn that hope into prosperity. This book saved my business and my sanity.

E-Myth Revisited Review

Excellent read and recommend listening to it once a year. Challenges small business owners to work yourself out of your job and to delegate. In order to build a self sufficient company with total freedom, one must develop systems that the "least" qualified employee in your organization can follow. It's all about the SYSTEMS in your company.

A must have business book.

I was going into this book with apprehension, a fear that this was yet another "I'll show you how it is done and you will live a great life forever". But I decided to buck the critic on audible who said it was awful and got it. Well I was surprised. It gives you the basics on running a business, a department, or anything...really. It shows you some of the obvious things that you never think about and then allows you to expand on them for yourself. It's a book that I have read a number of times...well listened to, but the first that I took notes on. E-Myth Mastery is next.

Life Changing, I Gotta Say

I had heard about this book for years, but Gerber's writing style, with its endless dependent clauses, bothered me. However, when I got the audio book, and heard him reading it, and got the way it was meant to be taken in, I got it.

This book has radically helped me in the past month and a half since I read it, and dramatically changed how I look at my (*CURRENTLY*) one-person business. I cannot recommend this book enough to those of you who started a small business without any entrepreneurial training or experience.

Wow! Does this guy know me?

I couldn't believe this book. It seemed like the author had a hidden camera into my life and my business. He knew everything about me! As he went through the stages of a new business, it was like as if he were telling my life story. His suggestions were timely and relevant. His methods were clear and easy to follow. I found this book to be particularly exciting and motivational. He reawakened the vitality in me that I had when I initially started my business. And most importantly, this book made me realize that my business ups and downs were not unique, and gave me hope that there was a way out. This is a perfect read for someone in the small, then big, then small again place in their business. However, I imagine it is relevant at any point in the growth of a small business. Hopefully you will read this book early so you can avoid some of the pitfalls he describes and I have already experienced. This is a MUST READ for any small business owner.

Ideas to build a life, not just a business

This book is helping me understand how a clear vision for my life and new business will help me accommodate changing markets, staff roll over, and evolving partnerships. E-Myth has changd my perspective and goal -- to develop an enterprise with a clear mission, and to plan this business to thrive without me.

Must listen for would be entrepreneurs

The audiobook is a bit too long. The stories about Sara's problems are a bit too long and too emotional at the first sight. However, when you look closer, you realize the story is about someone like you. If you try to think like Sara, the main character, it is about life and meaning of life. Then, you understand the real substance of what the author is transmiting using an emotional story. There is knowledge inside: how to start a business; how to not be consumed by your business; how to balance business with life; how to grow; how to be successful etc.
It is the true substance of the book that made me to upgrade from 3 to 4 stars.

I cannot understand why there are negative comments for this book - it is one of the better foundational books for any small business person who wants their life back. I highly recommend it.

Very Basic Book - Not Worth Buying

I have downloaded quite a collection of audio books related to business and this was my least favorite. It is written and read in a folksy manner, which was unappealing. As well, the content was not insightful or interesting. It was a difficult listen, but I slugged through all of it. I would not recommend this to anyone. I am surprised that it has such a high rating. If you are interested in better, yet still easy to follow, business-related material, I would suggest Rich Dad Poor Dad, The Millionaire Mind, and Dale Carnegie's book.

Small business owners - you must listen to this!

Where does The E-Myth Revisited rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

We all get bogged down in the doing. This book explains why and what to do about it.

What did you like best about this story?

Practical application.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, because you need to ponder the ideas being suggested. It's better to listen to a chapter, think and then move on. But you also want to go back and listen to it again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A super business book.

If you run a small business as I do, read this book as it'll give you a reality check.

This audible version is easily the best format for this very worthwhile book.

What did you like best about this story?

Every small business owner should listen

This is a great book for small business owners. I run a number of businesses and advise many others (not as part of Emyth Worldwide, I should add!) and the themes covered in this book, the systems and processes it introduces are excellent. The only reason it isn't 5* is because the story is a little too sickly at times and the narration is too slow (like so many narrators). I listened on 1.25x to make it sound normal!

It's not very up to date, but it is very true.

I would have preferred another voice than Michael's which was a little mock theatrical. so.

Implementing The E Myth Revisited

What I love about the book is it not only helped me understand myself more as an Entrepreneur but also my team an I now understand why they think the way they do.
Technician, Manager Entrepreneur

Just listening is not enough. We are implementing from start to finish all the lesson. Even though that means revisiting the every aspect of the business.

Anyone thinking of starting a business should listen and implement all the lessons.

Even if you are already in business, check yourself through this book which is where I came from. Had been in business 25 years without any education in the area of business. I know realise in my previous business I was the technician.

Enjoy and implement

This sounds like the Hubbard management system

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is good for people who don't have a clue about business, structure or organising their live.It is not good for people who have managed, know business skills or looking for an insight to gain an edge.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I didn't find it interesting.

However this may be because I have an MBA and I have been a part of similar coaching Hubbard Management programs which I was not impressed with.

I have found the Hubbard Management system not to be in line with my beliefs or personal practices.

Some people may really respond to this story and the way they tell allegorical tales to illustrate the point.

The good key takeaway is build your business to sell, OR just be happy being employed.

Did Michael E. Gerber do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

The speaker told the tale well - reminded me of the old "read-along story time" voice actors. Great voice for radio. very nostalgic.

Did The E-Myth Revisited inspire you to do anything?

Focus on systems and reread my MBA notes on McDonalds and the franchise theory. There are better books out there for "franchise" models and building a business to sell which is the underlying theme of the book.

Any additional comments?

This book is not a bad book, I would recommend this to people who have read business books before or have any training in management. It is a great segue into understanding you don't know much about running a business. Maybe look to investing in an MBA or getting a business coach.

Fluff and repetition

This book could be a quarter of the size if the overly emotional narratives and alliteration were removed. There are a few bits of helpful wisdom in there but one needs to wade deep through some heavy drivel.

Franchise based book

Was really hoping for more. I am not a business looking to grow a franchise model so I have found this book a bit of a waste of time. Others may find it more useful.

Tedious. Hard to find the grain amongst the chaff.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. It is padded with multiple repetitions, multiple repetitive adjectives, and multiple repetitive examples.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition. Cut the repetition.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes. Equally slow.

Could you see The E-Myth Revisited being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

There are some good ideas. For which I happily pay double for the non-bloated version.

A must read for ANY business.

Being a marketing coach, I was unsure on how many systems in this book would apply to my business, ignorantly assuming that this was more for bricks and mortar business. I was wrong, the systems in this books apply to ALL businesses and was a great kick up the a** for me! ;)
