Publisher's summary

From the nuts and bolts of managing money to the deep psychological and even spiritual meaning it has in our lives, this personal-finance audiobook shows everyone, even complete novices, how to take control of their money.

Suze Orman is a certified financial planner, a retirement specialist, and a registered investment advisor.

Orman begins with the insight that managing money is far more than a matter of picking the right investments or getting out of credit card debt. To get control of our finances, we must first get control of the feelings about money that arise from our earliest experiences with it.

Next comes Orman's clear, easy-to-follow advice about the practical importance of understanding and using investments, retirement plans, insurance, and credit.

Finally, Orman reveals why true financial freedom lies not in amassing wealth, but in realizing that we are worth far more than our money.

Good but out of date

I enjoyed hearing about the different types of life insurance, and wills vs. trusts. However, I didn’t know this book was from ~1997. The limits on contributions to IRA’s and 401k’s have increased significantly since the writing of this book and a Roth version of a 401k wasn’t talked about in the book since it wasn’t even an option at the time this book was written -only Roth IRA’s (which was covered). Sound principles but outdated.

Useful info

This is an easy listen, and offers lots of insight into why we have certain spending patterns, often stemming from early childhood experiences with money.

Very useful financial tips.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, she is very knowledge and is able to keep you interested to the end. I was surprised that the audiobook ended so soon I wanted to hear more. The audiobook is three hours but does not seem that long at all.

What did you like best about this story?

Financial tips for the average person. She gave real life scenarios which were very helpfuI. I also liked the fact that she included a spiritual twist to it. What is also interesting is that her family and her have experienced a lot of the same financial stress in their lives as we have. She knows how we feel.

What about Suze Orman’s performance did you like?

She is down to earth.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she asks us to go back to our childhood and remember our first financial event.

Financial Freedom is a state of mind

Financial freedom cording to this book is a state of mind, but it may not be financial independence. I’m a bad read at all, but other financial advice may be helpful.

Needs updated

This is a good book and dozens of helpful solutions but the book is outdated and uses 1990's references for the basis of stories. The fundamentals are still true, strong and useful but Author needs to update.
