Publisher's Summary

Make every communication count - with a simple, four-step speaking model.

Whether it's among colleagues at lunch or an audience of 1000, a leader's role is to move and inspire others. It's not only the big occasions that test a leader's mettle, but the little ones as well - in a casual conversation in the elevator, in phone calls, or one of many incidental, seemingly "insignificant" interactions in everyday work life.

Written by one of the world's leading communications coaches, Speaking as a Leader shows you how to make the most of your daily communications, creating a presence on the job as a genuine and constant leader.

In this eye-opening guide, aspiring (and established) leaders can enhance their reputations and influence by following a few simple steps.

Speaking as a Leader:

  • Shows how to structure your thoughts and message in any situation using a four-step model;
  • Offers tips on listening effectively, in three dimensions;
  • Details why you are the best visual and how to avoid "Death by PowerPoint";
  • Offers guidance on taking the "numb" out of numbers; and
  • Includes tips on moving from subject to message.

With Speaking as a Leader, you'll learn to tap into your innate leadership skills at every occasion - whether small or large - and earn the sort of respect that creates devoted friends and passionate supporters.

A Must Read

What did you love best about Speaking As a Leader?

This book is packed full of practical and inspirational tips to help us speak as leaders. While many tips are so simple they are almost "common sense", it is the how the book is arranged, that walks you through the process of speaking as a strong leader. I have my entire executive team reading this book!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Speaking As a Leader?

Leaders speak to inspire not to inform

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes!!!

Sorry to say

The message is to speak clearly. The narrator is slurring. I should have read this book instead.

Great info & tips

Did not like the narrator, she enunciated so much that she sounded like a robot. It was distracting at times but the information was great.

Influential

I enjoyed the concept of the book. The narration was the only thing that bothered me some bc I felt like she was a smoker. -That may just be a personal problem though.

Filled with great information organized well

I really wish I would have been taking notes while listening. Many points I already do but there were still lots of thought provoking ideas here. I would recommend this book for anyone who deals with people regardless of where you are in an organization.

Very Good content, Dry Delivery -> Sadly ironic.

This is the first book I listened at a faster rate, x1.25. The content in this book is excellent. I would not call this book inspirational. It will serve as a good how-to guide to help you improve your communication skills as a leader. You may want to begin with Simon Sinik's book, "Start with Why."

Boring!

Painful to listen to. It's exclusively about writing speeches. It will put you to sleep for 6 hours.
