Publisher's summary

Accounting is most definitely a unique language. So why not learn it like you would any other language—by listening? Since accounting is the language of business, being accounting-illiterate can cost you dearly. Ignore your accounting and you’ll pay too much in taxes. You may find yourself losing the business that you’ve worked so hard to build. Why risk so much when the subject of accounting is no longer difficult, obscure, or overwhelming to learn?

Radically Simple Accounting introduces a radically new way of learning accounting that successful people—from students to stars—find engaging. By taking a new approach to learning accounting that business people find intuitively easy to understand, and using common analogies and humor to reduce complex information into concepts that are easy to understand, the author has written and recorded the first user-friendly accounting book. There are four key concepts presented to help you become more profitable:

  • 1. Setting up your chart of account categories
  • 2. Producing standard financial reports
  • 3. Turning the accounting into a profit center.
  • 4. Communicating with bookkeepers, tax experts, and financial advisors using their lingo

Regardless of whether you do your own bookkeeping, or manage a bookkeeper, this book will teach you how to keep score. Are you taking all possible deductions included in the book? Are you winning or losing when it comes to your business finances? After you read the book, you’ll know. No matter the numbers, your GAAP financial reports will prove that you are "in the game", know the rules, and have what it takes to win. This accounting primer works with all accounting software, for all types of private businesses; and for individuals who are a ‘business of one’. QuickBooks® tips are included. 10% of proceeds go to charity. Order the audio version today. Start gaining control of your finances, and improving your profit tomorrow. This is one time that it pays to listen.

Lessons To Help Your Business Grow

Where does Radically Simple Accounting rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

If you are a small business owner you "must" listen to this book. I am in sales and marketing and I absolutely hate accounting until I listened to this book. It's simple, straight forward, and fun to listen to the author explain accounting. I wish this book was available two years ago.

Finally, clarity in plain English.

Madeline brings clarity to general accounting practices. She takes the time not only to explain in very understandable terms how it's done, but why do it that way. Madeline will also give the historical origins which helped me to align my thinking so I became more comfortable with why, "that's just the way it's done". Wish I had received this information years ago. Now my books and their reports are cleaner and I understand much more.

Thank you for this book!!

If you could sum up Radically Simple Accounting in three words, what would they be?

Informative, Comprehensive, and Entertaining

What was one of the most memorable moments of Radically Simple Accounting?

I purchased this audio book through Audible and I LOVE It. I’ve been studying bookkeeping and accounting for the past few years on my own, and finally decided to attend classes at our local community college. I’m a single mom and didn’t know how I was going to do it, but somehow it’s working out and is filling in a lot of the holes that were in my learning. Every day on my way to work, I listen to this audio book and I find it so inspiring and comforting. I had my own retail herb business and I recognize so many mistakes that I made that contributed to my having to close it after my husband and I split up. But of course, there ARE no mistakes – only opportunities for learning and growth. Anyway, I just wanted to write this review to tell you how much I’m enjoying this book and to thank the author for writing/recording it. Her obvious knowledge and expertise, combined with her kind voice and humor, make this a must for any new business, person interested in accounting, or anyone looking to have a firmer grasp on their finances. I feel grateful to have stumbled upon it one day while surfing Audible. Thank you!

Have you listened to any of Madeline Bailey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first audio book that I've listened to of Madeline Bailey's. Does she have more?? I'll get any other ones she has too!

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book for anyone studying bookkeeping or accounting, or anyone who's either starting a new business or wanting a deeper understanding of their business' financials.

Quirky, wandering, pleasant at moments

This is an odd book. I have listened to it in little bursts when listening to more structured and rigorous books has made me glaze over temporarily. It doesn't seem to be sure whether it is a self-help book, an instruction book, or a collection of little aphorisms trying to be funny about focus and motivational struggles with bookkeeping. (The author, in her odd vocalization style -- I keep wondering, is she asking me or telling me this? -- has said a few times this book is funny. Good thing she made that clear, because I wouldn't have noticed.) But it is so different from typical writing and narration, I have sort of enjoyed it, in short segments. What would I call it -- "edutainment?" I certainly wouldn't make it the basis of a class.

Low level accounting explained

Decent low level review of accounting principles. Good advice here for the small business honor and a little refresher for people with a business degree who are not actively engaged in accounting work.
