This is a great, but can't be your only resource

I just passed my SPHR! I'm very excited and I will say this was a very useful resource. All the materials including this one state that you need multiple resources to study to pass the PHR or SPHR and need to put in about 100 hours of study time. I did a 3 day intensive course along with the HRCP learning materials and used this so I could study in an audio format as I was commuting. It was very helpful because the reader is not dry, and the material can be... He used funny examples that help you remember. I did read a reviewer say that the material is not updated for the test and in some respects they are right. The number of questions on the test is wrong, but the material is the same. David Siler tells you you should use other study methods with this one such as his videos on his site. If you use those or other materials like I did you will be fine. If you use only this audio book you will not pass unless you were already prepared. I did enjoy this and felt it was helpful for me. I would recomend it.

I just passed the SPHR!

I would definitely recommend this audiobook. I was having trouble studying the written materials due to time and the distractions of life. I didn't know how busy I was until I began to find it hard to go to my study group. I did attend a weekly class and I studied the books some but my main study tool was the audiobook. I found that I could listen while I did housework, walked the dog or on the way to work. I learned a lot from the book. By bookmarking the review questions and the parts I thought I would need to review I could then go back and study. I heard about this from someone who thought it was dry and something to "sleep by" but for me it made the difference between passing and failing my test. Much of the test comes from drawing on your experience but the details and the specifics of the laws and methods are something I got from studying and this book emphasizes those things. It won't be your only study tool. I suggest going to a class with your local SHRM chapter and having some study books but this book will help to catch some things those tools don't and it will make it so you can devote more time to studying.

Fantastic resource for the SPHR exam!

I would recommend this to anyone studying for the SPHR/PHR exam. Great study resource when you are driving or during other times when listening is your only option. Even though this is several years old, the information is still applicable and I credit it with helping me to pass the SPHR exam!

Beneficial but heavy...

This audio book is a preparation for a test so the material included in the book is - BY DEFAULT - very condensed! You cannot listen to this without your full attention or when you barely have energy left at the end of the day.. Not recommended if you are exhausted and driving...

It has a lot of information and the reader repeats important points several times.. it has questions at the end of each chapter which are very useful. The tips given frequently are helpful. The tone of the reader is a bit monotonous and slow but then it is a 'lecture' so not much can be done... some examples are role-played and they are very helpful.. I used to play it at 1.5x-2x its speed to stay engaged.

I would recommend this book as a supplement to other study materials for the PHR exam. It could help you in the revision of the material but not in 'first time learning' phase.

Thank you, David Siler.

Any additional comments?

This was a great resource for the exam and for HR in general. I took the PHR a few weeks ago and passed (yay!). I feel like this audio book contributed to that greatly. I didn't use this as my only prep material but it was just as good as my expensive prep course books and the material in this audiobook was incredibly relevant to the questions that I got on the exam. There were actually a couple of times that I could hear David's voice in my head while answering the questions because I specifically remembered him talking about a topic.

This audiobook also allowed me to turn mundane tasks, like doing the dishes, into study time--which is pretty awesome because I got really sick of staring at a book for hours. I highly recommend this if you are in HR--it's definitely worth more than the price it is listed as.

My only complaint is he pronounces OSHA wrong. :) Oh and expect a few Star Wars references and role playing dialogues. They're silly but you'll remember the material.

Even though it's a few years old, still good!

I loved listening to this while studying for the SPHR. I used it in conjunction with Bench Prep and definitely can say I learned and retained a lot from listening. I really appreciated that the SPRH-only sections were pointed out so I could focus. Also he sounds like Dr. Phil telling you to get your shit together so that helped. I passed after 6 weeks of studying/listening.

Listened to this audiobook while doing housework and yardwork. Did very little other study. Passed with no problem. Highly recommend.

Passed SPHR the first time!

What made the experience of listening to PHR - SPHR Study Guide: 2012 Edition the most enjoyable?

Love this audiobook. I self studied for the exam with this audiobook and passed the first time. Great information and narration. The test taking tips were very helpful!
