Publisher's summary

Recent discoveries in quantum physics, chaos theory, and biology have transformed the way we think of the "orderly universe." But did you know that the "New Science" can also be applied to the way we organize work, people, and our lives? Author Margaret J. Wheatley shows us how our new understanding of science and the meaning of life can lead to a powerful new view of the business world. Wheatley believes that, just as our world has become nonlinear and filled with constant transition, we must change many of our outmoded management methods. Her book examines conflicts between order and chaos, autonomy and control, structure and flexibility, and planning and innovation, inviting us to transform our way of thinking and adapt ourselves - and our companies - to the 21st century.

I absolutely loved this book and I just finished it only after a few days of listening and I'm about to play it again because the wealth of knowledge in this is so great!

Outstanding Insight

As CEO, I gained great insight how and why new management styles such as Participative Management or Total Quality Management are more efficient than the conventional "Command and Control" style. I was able to follow through and change my company over to Total Quality Management. The results were awesome. Elated customers, happier workers, higher profits and vastly improved profit sharing results.

A Different Approach

I was assigned to read this book for a class and this is certainly not a book that I would choose to read on my own. It took me awhile to get what this author was trying to say but near the end I had a few ah-ha moments. It's certainly goes out into left field, in comparison to what I'm accustomed to.
The recording quality is horrible too. Very muffled.

Exercise lacking ground truth and organization.

Ironically the flow and organization of this book was quite chaotic itself, while the author shares a reflection on organizational design based on chaos and faith.

Theories are shared and expanded upon metaphorically, but each suggestion lacked application or supporting studies.

Short version

What disappointed you about Leadership and the New Science?

This audio book only covers the first 4 chapters, in the actual book there are about 15 chapters. Had I known that I would have never purchased this version.
