Publisher's Summary

Would you like to leave your job and make a living with your writing? This book will show you how.

I spent 13 years working as a cubicle slave in the corporate world. I was miserable in my job and my creativity was stunted by the crushing daily grind. Then I started writing books and blogging, using my words to create products and attract readers.

In September 2011, I left my corporate job to become a full-time author and creative entrepreneur and since then I've grown my business year by year, all based on my writing. More importantly, I'm finally living the happy life I always wanted.

I'm not a Kindle or blogging millionaire and this is not a get rich quick scheme. But I will share with you how I make a multi-six-figure income from writing books, blogging and marketing in an ethical manner. We're living in the best time ever to make a living with your writing!

Great advice and full of real life examples

I really love this book, I will definitely come back to listen again some chapters as I put in place Joanna's suggestions.
Her work has inspired me to continue writing and now I have 2 niche bestsellers in the IT Security area, but the income is not enough yet to leave my company in charge of others. Listening this audiobook has gave me hope that if I apply the recommendations I will succeed and fulfill my dream of writing full time. A few days ago I started to write my 3rd book and have already 2000 words, and I've never written this fast so definitely Joanna has to do with this.

Info without the fluff

Joanne Penn was able to convey what authors need to get started on their journey to success in an easy and understandable way. I can see why she is such a pillar in the independent author community.

Great info!

So many authors offer just an overview with no meat on the bones - not the case here. Lots of 'first steps', 'next steps' - a very informative listen !!

Book or Ad?

What did you like best about How to Make a Living with Your Writing? What did you like least?

Information is decent, but I couldn't past all the references the author makes to her website and teaching programs. I felt like I was listening to a long advertisement for her web-related business. Next time, just put all that stuff at the end, or reference once, but not throughout the book.

Useful resource

There's a lot of overlap with her "How to Market Your Book" book. I think a physical or digital version would have been a better choice, just so I could easily go back and reference things. I enjoyed this and found it helpful. Joanna Penn is a great resource, and I've gotten other books by her.
