Very outdated

Missing any components for more current marketing techniques. Details direct mail and other paper based techniques instead. Some good tips that might be applied to newer stuff, but is definitely dated.

Very much out of date

I think this book, although it contains some good ideas, is in need of a makeover. I was fooled into believing it was a recent book since it was released to Audible in 2006. However, the references to obsolete jargon like desktop publishing, typesetting, and fax machines as if they were still somehow relevant kept jarring me.

I bought it because of Seth Godin's name was on it, but I found later it was first published in 1995. It made me realize how much has changed in the meantime.

Good Principles... but DATED...

I like the writing style and delivery of this content. I'm not sure when this was written, but there was no social media mentioned. Even with the dated material, the principles were very encouraging... Solo business owners have many advantages to bigger businesses: Speed, Personalized Attention, Special Requests, Availability, etc. So, it wasn't a total loss, but I would maybe look for something from them that more recent... if it exists? I listened at 1.5X speed and the narration was great. If any of this was helpful, please click YES. Later.

Dated Material, But Still Contains Great Value...

First, I have to say that I wasn't pleased by someone other than Seth reading this book. That said the narrator was efficient and I wouldn't mind listening to him again on another audio. It is just a personal preference once I have heard an author read I like to hear them keep doing it. I have become spoiled in that regard. There is so much value in the author reading a book like this. They deliver the passion that is important.

I have had numerous exposures to the mental processes that underpin the Guerrilla Marketing idea of Jay Levinson and I see great value in them. This book needs to be updated and revised. After all, who has a pager anymore??? (That is what email and text messages on your mobile phone is all about)!!! Fax??? (Yes, the company I work for still has one but it IS NOT a primary communications tool anymore)!!!

There are some real gems as well that will translate well into email and social media activities, but you will have to make the intuitive leap. These gems are the real world examples of Guerilla Marketing. The stories are awesome and well worth the cost of this audiobook and the outdated content. It just isn’t a home run given its dated nature.

So overall, I recommend the book but if you are looking for something to make an impact right now, I would recommend, The Thank You Economy by Gary Vaynerchuk. This title is more in line with the status of valuable reference, (you really should give it a listen there is value here), but not current to the trends of this decade or the next.

Great book, I will likely read again!

Bad: It’s a bit dated in some cases. This was written before the age of social media. Some of the ideas may be quaint, slow, expensive or odd compared to modern marketing. In some cases though these methods might get you noticed, like sending hand written cards.

Good: Very solid information. Great ideas, many I have never read or heard elsewhere. I would recommend. Well written. 5 stars! I marked it to read again in a year or two, which I do with the most valuable books I read

amazing book... terrible narration

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The ideas contained in this book are top grade, but this is the only book in my library that has so far remains unfinished. The voice of the narrator Barrett Whitener is good, but its as though there was something wrong with the speed. I can't put my finger on it, but I have to force myself to listen.

Outdated strategies.

The book is from the early 1990s and the information from back then has become irrelevant to the world of today.

A little dated

This has some good advice, but I didn't care for much of it, seemingly written when the internet was very new, it feels like very old advice. Advice about using email in the days when it only supported text, and advice on sending faxes. The only advice that was missing was how to club a wooly mammoth. They need to re-write this for this century.
