Publisher's Summary

The B!tch is back… and she's brought The Grit Doctor along for the ride.

What’s in your handbag? To-do lists scrawled on the back of receipts? An unpaid bill? Half a chocolate bar, covered in fluff? Is your handbag a metaphor for the rest of your life? Has becoming a capable, poised grown-up turned out to be more complicated than you imagined?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, and if you're tired of the crappy stuff in life grinding you down, then it's time to stop whining and Get Your Sh!t Together.

With this funny, frank, and tough-talking guide, Ruth Field and The Grit Doctor will help you:

  • Tackle daunting problems like a fearless superwoman
  • Figure out what you want from life and find the courage to Go For It
  • Learn how to get more sh!t done in less time
  • Stop feeling bad about your less-than-perfect life (because perfection's overrated anyway)

She taught you how to run; now she’s going to teach you how to run your life!

Critic Reviews

“Amusingly vicious... excellent advice all round.” (Emma Thompson on Run Fat B!tch Run)
“Refreshingly free of new-age jargon and psychoanalysis. It's about determination and the pursuit of the 'happy effect.'” (Herald Sun)
“If you're stuck in an exercise rut, this book will give you a rather rude kick up the backside... it certainly shamed us into lacing up our Nikes!” (Closer)
“Ruth is an inspiring running-buddy... By the time I unpack my summer wardrobe, I'm sure my inner Grit Doctor will be my best friend.” (Flic Everett Daily Express)
“A witty, no-nonsense read, it had us dusting off our trainers within seconds. Trust us when we say you'll be up and running in no time at all.” (Grazia)

Comedy?

This is an edgy self help books, categorized incorrectly (in my opinion). It is repetitive, and I had a hard time finishing it.

Not the book for me.

Would you try another book from Ruth Field and/or Ruth Field?

I would not. In fact, I wish I had known that her first book was called "Run, Fat Bitch, Run," because I would not have bought this book in the first place. I just think Field's message is fundamentally one I disagree with.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ruth Field again?

No.

How could the performance have been better?

Actually, I kind of enjoyed her performance.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration. I felt like she went over such obvious topics like "don't watch so much TV" and "obsessing over the lives of celebrities is useless."

Any additional comments?

If you are a chronically disorganized person who has very little self-discipline, this book might be helpful. If I was to sum up the book entirely, it would be "how to play Alec Baldwin's talk from Glengarry Glen Ross in your head constantly."<br/><br/>Coffee is for closers. We know that.<br/><br/>At the end of the day, I think she was trying to solve a problem that I just don't have.<br/><br/>I have my own slew of "absentminded professor" problems, but being obsessed with X Factor or which celebrities have botox is just not my issue.

Just the kick in the butt I needed!

This is not a book that cushions the corners, so if that is what you want look elsewhere! Straight to the point, no excuses manifesto and rallying call! I listen when ever I need a booster shot of gumption.

The Best Book For Getting Out Of A Rut

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to make any major or minor changes in their lives. This book is straight forward and no nonsense. It gives you practical, realistic advice on how to really get yourself going.

Not only did I enjoyed the content but it was written fantastically. The reader and author was a pleasure to listen to.

Ruth Field is tough as nails and I loved it!

Would you consider the audio edition of Get Your Sh!t Together to be better than the print version?

Yes - the author's voice really helps to demonstrate her points

What other book might you compare Get Your Sh!t Together to and why?

The concepts in the book are not new, but I thought she did a great job of compiling all of the different actions, thoughts and ideas and putting them in a no-nonsense way that people will appreciate. (I did!)

Have you listened to any of Ruth Field’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Just the main point which is true. Action is all that matters. Not your intentions of doing something, your plans of doing something, or your excuses why you haven't done whatever that something is.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would, it is a quite enjoyable book, she says things we all know but that are nice to be remembered of.<br/><br/>It's a book you can read many times.<br/><br/>I don't agree with everything she says, but most I do.

Would you be willing to try another book from Ruth Field? Why or why not?

Yes I would, she's nice to be listened to.

What about Ruth Field’s performance did you like?

Yes, she does read the book putting all her heart into it.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

I don't think so.

A no nonsense enjoyable 'listen'

I really enjoyed this!

In the first hour of me listening I realised I'd put on my trainers and walked 4 miles - still listening.

(And it's not even Run Fat B*tch Run! Haha)

Which I am actually JUST about to buy!

I came home and cleaned a shelf!! - two actually! ;)

I like the idea of it all, I like Ruth's gritty attitude, (she always has a great reading voice, almost hypnotic at times) - it's given me a big kick up the bum this week!

THANK YOU Ruth.

Glad I kept at it!

After I hurled it out of the window about 15 minutes in, I then continued listening to her, and went back to clean the window.

She will work you to exhaustion!
This book is great for getting you going, good for lazy people in need of a push, potentially dangerous for high achieving a type personalities who are too hard on themselves as it is.
Aka good to give me that extra push, but I won't be recommending it to my stressed-up-to-her-eyeballs sister.
