Story
Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that once we succeed, we’ll be happy; that once we get that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But the science reveals this formula to be backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Story
Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Want to conquer your e-mail inbox once and for all? Need help getting organized and staying focused? Start listening! Millions of people already benefit from the innovative, time-saving tips that Stever Robbins dispenses each week in his number-one-ranked Get-It-Done Guy podcast. Now he’s come up with a nine-step plan to transform even the most overwhelmed into an overachiever. You will learn to:
- Beat procrastination by speed dating your tasks: You’ll face anything if it’s just for three minutes; schedule small, finite periods of time for those tasks that seem too overwhelming to get started on.
- Give your technology a performance review: Our smart phones, PDAs, and computers often make less work in one area while making much more work in others. Review your technology to make sure it’s delivering on its promise.
- Cut out the small talk: Small talk builds superficial relationships, which is a grand waste of time. Ask better questions to make instant connections that’ll benefit you for years to come.
Written in the uniquely humorous style Stever is known for, Get-It-Done Guy’s 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More will help you break the bad habits slowing you down and holding you back. Work less and do more - your free time is waiting!

Thanks to your work, now I can't sleep, Stever!
This is a superb audiobook. I listen to many, and do not use effusive praise lightly. I usually listen to audiobooks and podcasts before bed, to help me relax before sleep. Get-it-done-guy is one of my favorites, and the 10 minutes or so usually offered is a great break from my day. Stever tickles my funny bone like he put "make this girl laugh" on his life map. But now that I have so many hours of his humor, all in one place, and it is so good - both well written and educational in a "stop what you're doing and reorganize your life right now" kind of way - how is it that I am supposed to get any sleep? I keep giggling out loud and waking up my husband, who then listens himself and then chuckles so loudly that I still can't sleep, even though husband has stolen the earphones. What the heck!?! Here is the part of the review where I would say that Stever is a cross between "insert business guru here" and "insert comedian's name here", but he is such an original that comparisons are useless. Go get an episode of the podcast. Any will do. If you do not laugh, go buy a "How to get a sense of humor" audiobook instead. If you laugh, or change your life for the better, or - most likely - change your life for the better while figuring out how to invest in the Depends brand so you can listen to more, then you should buy this audiobook. Possible also while buying the hard copy so you can use a highlighter for the good parts. S'what I did, and look how happy I am. Well, except for the not being able to sleep part...

Both useful and humorous
I have listened to several "Get Organized" books and Get-It-Done-Guy's 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More is by far the easiest to listen to. Stever has a way of presenting useful tips and tricks to help you become more productive without making it a bore to listen to. I actually laughed out loud at times while listening!

Painful to listen to unless you are 20 something
What would have made Get-It-Done-Guy's 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More better?
Less of the quirky personality of the author. He had good points however the delivery method depended on being on his weird wavelength. Injections about things such as zombies to make his point were funny at first, tired in the end.
Would you ever listen to anything by Stever Robbins again?
If his style matures, the book is written to amuse the 20 something crowd.
Would you be willing to try another one of Stever Robbins’s performances?
Not likely that I would spend the time or money.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Get-It-Done-Guy's 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More?
I listened to the book several months ago and just remember feeling, good points but awful delivery. Too many of his personal experiences etc I could not relate with.
Any additional comments?
I commend the guy for trying.

My First Audiobook Purchase Well Worth it!
I recently decided to switch over to audiobooks. Lately, I've been finding that I don't really have time for anything. I'm staying late at work just to finish off tasks, and I'm not having much of "me" time or with friends. So I decided to take action and purchase this audiobook. A world I dreamed of was what Stever's first words were. I saw myself with everything he said. I'm really good at procrastinating! Really I am! But i don't want to be! After listening to the audiobook, even I, a really good procrastinator became an action orientated person. I finish tasks even if they attempt to intimidate me with their size. I really recommend this audiobook filled with real life tips. Oh and before I forget, his voice is not monotone or boring. To be honest, in parts it's actually funny because of his Bernese (female) voice impersonation.

I wanted to like this book
For a book about time management the author spends an incredible amount of time wasting time with ridiculous jokes and stories. There is a lot of rambling and the humor in this book seriously distracts from any content. Really wouldn't mind getting my money or credits back for this book. This is one of few books that audible recommended that I really didn't like.
I think "stever" need to figure out that he wants to be a comedian instead of a consultant or author. PASS......

Addicted to his podcasts, addicted to his book...
Now, I'm addicted to the audiobook. Stever has a very unique style when it comes to relaying information. You have to appreciate his sense of humor (which, fortunately, most office people and entrepreneurs do). I read his book, but I am so glad to also have the audiobook because Stever has a unique way of delivering information that makes you sit up, take heed--all while having fun. Come on--how many productivity books are actually FUN? He makes you WANT to be more productive because he makes the process more entertaining and simple.

Listen to some of his Podcasts first
I usually don't write reviews unless I feel I've wasted my money. If you're considering this book, listen to his Podcasts first. I DIDN'T do this, and if I had, I likely wouldn't have bought the audiobook. If you like his podcasts, you'll have a better chance of liking the book.
