Publisher's summary

If your company has lost the focus it once had, here are clear solutions for moving your organization back to its key service and discarding everything else. Ries, coauthor of The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing, gives clear examples from a variety of industries and demonstrates how crucial focus can be. Focus, he offers, is the key component to the successes of on-track companies such as Coca-Cola, Volvo, Sun Microsystems, and Little Caesars. He defines a new standard of corporate competitiveness for companies both big and small and passes on his extensive marketing experience and cutting-edge managerial advice. Get focused: your future depends on it.

Sound fundamentals

Interesting that he predicted exactly what some companies needed to do (IBM). Will also be interesting to see how his take on cable/telephone plays out.

One great takeway for me - always be in front of the market for your products. Paraphrased in my words... if anyone is going to put your product out of business, let it be a new version that you develop.

Excellent book

This is worth hearing for any executive, business leader, or entrepreneur. A contrarian view of how to dominate your market.

Moderate Relevance

Just a bit outdated. Somethings that were relevant back then are not all applicable today

Older recording but still very relevant today

replaced a warn out tape with this digital recording... this should tell you everything you need to know. if not, then my advice is to listen to this recording over and over, and put the authors advice to work for you and your organization!

Great and convincing argument for focus

In business and in life focus is counter intuitive to logic. Great read/listen! Listening again. III III II II

A classic business strategy book.

Still relevant in 2023. Al Ries lays out the importance of focus as the foundation of branding and business success.

As important for the Fortune 500 CEO and the local Chiropractor, this book explains why you and your company should narrowly focus to break through the noise of an over-communicated world.

Had me from the beginning!

This is a great listen. I had to go back a few times just to take notes on the many tips and gems shared by the author. A great read especially for startups or anyone looking to align their businesses to win.

The need to Focus remains

Facts from the 90’s but still useful statement to focus. Abstraction in listening is needed
