Publisher's summary

Everything you think you know about success is wrong. Set Goals. Work Hard. Be Persistent. It's the typical success advice you can probably repeat in your sleep. The type of advice that doesn't seem to work for you - or anyone you know, for that matter. You work your butt off, but at the end of the day, you're no closer to success than you were yesterday. The ugly truth is that it's not what you're doing that is holding you back. It's who you are. It's the baggage between your ears that keeps you from achieving your dreams and goals. That's why we have to change the dialogue about success. It's why we need to have an EDGY conversation.

An EDGY conversation is a gut-wrenchingly honest, no-holds-barred discussion about confronting and fixing the beliefs and behaviors that limit your ability to be amazing. It tackles head-on the uncomfortable yet powerful truth that pain, fear and love - yes, love - have a huge impact on success. EDGY is how ordinary people become extraordinary. EDGY is how a master chef, a World War II veteran, a 15-year-old girl, a homeless retired paramedic, an Australian potato farmer and a shoe executive became amazing, did the unthinkable and forever changed their corner of the world. And EDGY is how you can achieve outrageous success, regardless of who or where you are in life right now. You don't need more advice on success. You just need to be more EDGY. Let's talk about it.

The Key to Success

"+"
Author is a very good reader,
good story in general,
Dozens of successful stories with a proper explanation.

"-"
I didn't like the author's position of being super proud of his success. Feels lack of humbleness.
Sometimes it felt that the book was created not for the reader, but to show off the author himself.

Great wake up call to us 'normal' people

Great wake up call to us 'normal' people doing nothing about our lives and seeing it go by. We complain about most things for no real reason.

Mono tone Narrator

Dan has so much energy, and I was hoping the narrator would have some! I wish Dan would have read it or at least someone who seemed a little bit excited!

The book is an excellent motivational one

A friend of mine recommended the book. He's read it three times.
Even though the book might seem to be another motivational story, it's not — a lot of examples of fantastic achievements by regular people that became great because of extra efforts.

To put it in a nutshell:
EDGY means the following:
E = Extreme (as in extreme behavior)
D = Disciplined (as in disciplined activity)
G = Giving (hopefully self-explanatory)
Y = Y(h)human strategy (as in You need to know how to interact with people authentically)

In addition, I like that the author continually refers to love, humility, self-sacrificing, etc.

I recommend reading this book. It's a pretty good one.

Brilliant!

What did you love best about EDGY Conversations?

Normally I can't stand self-help books, I always find them cheesy, unrealistic and involve too much on new-age wuwu. What makes this brilliant is the focus on how difficult it is to accomplish major goals and the motivation to do it anyway.

Edgy, but annoying conversations

It's a pretty good book overall. I was concerned that it was a bit self indulgent; It also didn't hang together between all the analogies. While the core message is solid and important, This appeared to be a story were the analogies were selected 1st and then stories woven to fit the analogies. However, its core message about pushing oneself and not giving up and fighting for your dreams is a very important one that makes the above mentioned distractions easy to overlook.
