Publisher's Summary

Two missing persons. One apparent suicide. Three cases pushing PI Jessie Cole and crime reporter Ben Morrison closer to the edge.

Lacey Geiger could be a very rich woman. If Jessie Cole can find her. The beneficiary of a sizable estate, Lacey vanished years ago after escaping an abusive childhood and is veiled now behind a new identity. Jessie has two weeks to find her. It’s enough time to discover that Lacey is hiding from so much more than anyone realized. But she isn’t the only one with secrets. And Jessie’s not the only one searching for the truth.

A concerned daughter has asked for help finding her mother - a woman said to have been murdered thirty years ago. And Jessie’s colleague Ben, an amnesiac still struggling with the bloody memories of a shattered life, is nearer to piecing together a very dark picture. Especially when someone he detests is found dead, hanging from a tree by a riverbank.

Now as the mysteries, puzzles, and lies of three investigations are unearthed, Jessie and Ben will risk everything to bring all that is hidden into the light.

This is a busy book!

This is a very good addition to the Jessie Cole series. If you haven't listened to to the previous books I would suggest listening in order for continuity. However, these can each be listened to as stand alone books.
The publisher's summary is excellent and leaves little room for any additional information with out adding spoilers.
I will say it sure has plenty of twists. The book begins with a kidnapping of a husband and wife. Their situation is not good. They've drugged and wake up buried in a box together. It doesn't take long for the wife (Lacey) to learn things about her husband that maybe she would have preferred not to.
There are two other cases Jessie and her protege Zee are working on.
Meanwhile , Jessie's amnesiac friend Ben is trying to piece together missing memories. He may not like what he finds.
The book ends with a cliffhanger so I'm not sure if this is the end of this series as I've seen some people say or just another installment.
Kate Rudd does an excellent job narrating.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Bad last chapter! And this is the last book?

Wow! I loved this book until the last chapter. I’m not crazy about where the author took this so I’m not sure I’ll read the next book if one of the MC’s, that I really like, turns out to be a serial killer.

Anyway, this was a really good story about 3 different stories going on: Jason and Lacey were buried alive. Nathaniel Snyder was accused of killing his wife, on the testimony of his father-in-law. And someone hung Roger Willis, the pedophile. They were all very good. BUT mostly, I love Zee Gatley’s character. She has no problem with the voices of Marion, Lucy and Francis who occupy her head. She says she would be lonely without them. And they say some of the funniest things sometimes.

There was no romance in this and the F-bomb was used 31 times.

As to the narration: You don’t get much better than Kate Rudd. Her voices are perfect and when she reads it’s so full of feelings and emotions.

I just read where this is the last book in the series. Which means we'll never really know the truth about Ben? That's so uncalled for! I feel cheated..

Terrible

Really? Way too far fetched— wasted a credit on this. The narrator sounded like a computer generated voice! So bad!

Love the series, can't wait for more!

This book didn't have the same excitement and mystery to it as the previous ones in the series, but it was still good. The final 4 minutes is what matters, I guess! Knowing there will be more!!!

A great follow-up to this series

Book 4 of this Jesse Cole series kept me engaged but I could not begin 2 guess the ending. As with the previous three books in this series I loved this story. I hope there will be a book 5. As usual Kate Rudd gave a wonderful performance. I would highly recommend this book and the series. a very enjoyable read.
