From best-selling writer David Graeber, a powerful argument against the rise of meaningless, unfulfilling jobs and their consequences.

Does your job make a meaningful contribution to the world? In the spring of 2013, David Graeber asked this question in a playful, provocative essay titled “On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs”. It went viral. After a million online views in 17 different languages, people all over the world are still debating the answer.

There are millions of people - HR consultants, communication coordinators, telemarketing researchers, corporate lawyers - whose jobs are useless, and, tragically, they know it. These people are caught in bullshit jobs. Graeber explores one of society’s most vexing and deeply felt concerns, indicting among other villains a particular strain of finance capitalism that betrays ideals shared by thinkers ranging from Keynes to Lincoln.

Bullshit Jobs gives individuals, corporations, and societies permission to undergo a shift in values, placing creative and caring work at the center of our culture. This book is for everyone who wants to turn their vocation back into an avocation.

I have a great respect to the points raised by the author. nevertheless it didn't require a full book as the main idea kept coming up again and again. it became boring

The main idea doesn't require a full book

You should read this book. There is some political opinion Graeber holds—or doesn’t hold—that will put you off. In fact, that’s what keeps me from giving the work a fifth star. But the message always matters more than the messenger, and this message is crucial.

Basically: we already have enough automation to Star Trek the economy. We just don’t want to. The explanations for the pieces are complex; so, he wrote a book.

Graeber thinks that there’s a way to get to a world where people don’t try to dominate each other; or, at least, a world where people can try, but won’t get away with it. I think I know better than that. Still, his observations are worth listening to…even though I do not agree with all of his conclusions.

Although some parts may feel repetitive, I really enjoy the thoughts and the logical flow of this book. the first audio book in a while that I have wanted to finish as quickly as possible

this book will explain a lot about things you probably already know, but that makes it all the more engrossing.

Nice to realize you aren't alone

As a former business and finance major I was given a lot of preconceived notions about the way our economy has to work. This book has shifted my thinking and opened my eyes to the futility of our current societal structure. When you pair this book with books like "This Changes Everything" you will understand the need for a living wage not just for our souls, but for our environment as well.

Amazing

The concept itself ua brilliant but it is poorly developed through the book. Some "research" is just biased confirmation of hyphotesis. Some parts are just political views of the world and anti-capitalist speech with no clear connection with the main topic

30% good 70% biased information and story tales

I'd totally be in favor of UBI, so as to receive my first real taste of freedom. And to maybe have a chance to discover what I want to do with the rest of my life. I certainly have a bullspit job that sucks the very life from me.

So very thought-provoking!
