Publisher's Summary

First runner up for a Swirl award.

Brooklyn's Song is a mystery that features a multi-ethnic cast of characters. This "absorbing story” begins with lead character, Brooklyn Pierce, witnessing the attempted assassination of her father, the first elected African-American Governor of New York, Sage Pierce.

Leading the ensuing investigation, Korean-American detective Song Kai is immediately thrust into a perceived web of political conspiracy, forcing him to delve into Governor Pierce’s past and the apparent suicide of his wife 23 years prior. After developing feelings for Brooklyn and unearthing dark and tragic secrets, Song is plagued by the memory of his own wife’s death and the possibility of taking down the father Brooklyn so loves and admires. Twists turn into a heart-wrenching and shocking climax that reveals a deep and profound love.

Great book bad narrator..

The plot for this book was actually pretty good. However the narrator was drier than the Sahara. Her voice was really monotone and actually put me to sleep early on in the book. Somehow I managed to press on once I woke up from my nap. I would say definitely buy the book. However, I would not say listen to the book on Audible. Bad narration can really ruin the whole experience. 😕

Great characters

Brooklyn's Song by Sydney Arrison has a great story with strong characters. The story is your normal cop falls for victim storyline but why makes this one better than most is the characters. You really get to like them and want them to be happy.

As far as an audible goes, the narrator had it tough with many different voices. Her main character Voice was good but the
She lost me in some of the other characters. I can only imagine how tough that is to do many voices.

I would however definitely listen to another audio again by this writer.

Great book!

Any additional comments?

It was refreshing to see Brooklyn Pierce portrayed as an educated, moral woman. Song was so sexy and Mattice was the comic relief and overall it was a fun suspenseful and romantic book.

A book with a little of everything!

I love books that have good story lines. This is my first Sydney Arrison book, and it gave me a little of everything I love. Brooklyn is the daughter of the governor. After an attempt on the governor's life, Brooklyn meets detective Song Kai. And from there we have an incredible story. From the whodunnit of the murder attempt to the budding love between Brooklyn and Song, I was drawn in. There are a few twists and turns throughout the book, some angst and sadness from the past to overcome and abundant passion with the two main characters. I have to say that the character of Mattice, Song's partner really brought a lot of humor to the story as well. What a great friend who just tells it like it is! Arrison knows how to weave all the different parts together for a wonderful story.

Rose Lane did an beautiful job performing this book. She has a rich, warm voice giving the story the emotion necessary to draw you in. Loved the narration!

Wow!!! What a story!

What a book! This story is full of action, drama, suspense and love! Both the author and narrator were new to me & I was glad I found them. I will most definitely look for more of their books. I really enjoyed the unexpected twists and turns. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good mystery weaved into the romantic development

I like this story and the hero and heroine. She was smart and not overly emotional and dramatic, I just read so many of those types lately, it was refreshing to read about Brooklyn having a good head on her shoulders.
The story had a good pacing and I like the 2 reveals, I mean 2 is better than one. However, I could not feel the chemistry in the narration. It is the first time I hear this narrator and she was ok but the romantic scenes were narrated just like the other parts, I mean, from the pages you could tell that Brooklyn was being flirtatious but her voice did not match that and the sex scenes voice was kind of flat like reading a grocery list but the words were there! total disconnect unfortunately. At the end, I will read another book from this author and will listen with another narrator. But other people might enjoy this style of narration.

*I was provided this audiobook for free but my review is my honest opinion.

Wonderful romantic suspense

This book is fast paced, well written and beautifully narrated! Someone attempted to kill the governor after an event, in which he proposed to his gf, with his grown daughters at his side. The witness to the attempt is the younger of the governor’s daughters, Brooklyn. The lead detective on the case is Song Kai. There is a mutual attraction between Brooklyn and Song and they soon begin dating. But even though the case is quickly wrapped up, Song follows a lead that may prove deadly. Vengeful exes and a psychotic rapist keep the suspense and pace of the story just right. It is rather enjoyable.
I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent story - boring narrator

The story is well told and characters are very believable. A very good read if you like romantic suspense.

The narrator uses a flat monotone and often seems to stumble over words in the script.

Recommend reading the book rather than listening to the audio book.
