One of those onlookers is Eliza, daughter of a wealthy Brooklyn merchant who supplies wire to the bridge. When she meets handsome Will, a poor Irish immigrant who works on the New York side of the bridge, she doesn’t expect anything from their meeting. After all, there’s the entire East River between them. But when Will and Eliza decide to leave each other secret letters, everything changes for both of them.

Just when their friendship blossoms, cold winters, the difference in their stations, and an exposed scam complicate their letter exchange and threaten to keep Will and Eliza apart. Will their connection continue to grow like the unfinished bridge that separates them?
