Publisher's Summary

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jeff Wheeler’s epic Harbinger series comes to a breathtaking conclusion as two women are swept into a battle that could destroy two worlds.

Rescued from a world of poverty, Cettie Pratt has avoided a bleak destiny - until now. Deceived and manipulated, she has been groomed for the ultimate betrayal: to destroy her best friend and stop peace from uniting two war-torn worlds. Her path leads her to a mysterious underworld where appearances can be deceiving.

Sera Fitzempress knows the value she has to her enemies. As heir to the empire, she must keep her foes at bay and prevent them from unleashing a being of unspeakable evil upon the world while fighting a brutal war. But her enemies are more cunning than Sera expects, and the key to their plans is none other than her best friend.

Neither woman knows what to believe. Neither one knows if she can trust the other. Both Cettie and Sera have made decisions that have irrevocably changed them. But the decisions they have yet to make will determine the fate of their world…

Great conclusion

As always, Jeff writes captivating books that suck you in and make you want more. I am heartbroken that this series is done as I’ve grown to love all of the characters and their developments.

Hetaera and Kishion all over the place

In this final book of the Harbinger series, Cettie and Sera face new dangers. The war in Kingfountain is raging, with the advantage shifting from side to side. Cettie is still at the poisoner school, at the beginning. It appears that hetaera and kishion are everywhere taking the place of all kinds of regular people. Tensions run high throughout the book.

The setting is not quite so glorious as in the previous books – some of the action takes place in an underground prison-like place where children are required to literally rake muck all day and chained in place at night at the mercy of a keeper who is as likely to beat them as not – but the plot moves right along. Although the climax is a little difficult to relate to (hint: according to the author the key scene was inspired by Beethoven’s ninth symphony), most of the plot is understandable in light of the previous books in the series.

This series is over, but there are enough loose ends left hanging to indicate that there could easily be yet another series worth of adventures left in Cormoros and/or Kingfountain.

I had this book on Kindle Unlimited and had access to both the Kindle and Audible versions of the book.

Worthy Conclusion to an Entertaining Series

Broken Veil begins with the empire and Kingfountain at war. Sera is the Empress guiding her world in war and trying to change society at the same time. Her husband Trevon of Kingfountain is missing and possibly dead. General Montpensier has usurped power in Kingfountain and plans to take over the empire as well. Cettie is a prisoner at a poisoner school being trained by her biological father to become a hetaera. Can both women stop being helpless, renew their friendships, save the Empire, bring peace, and be reunited with their loved ones?

This book is good wrap up of the Harbinger Series. The two heroes try to recover from earlier decisions and regrets. Their trials have made them stronger, but are they strong enough? The story puts them through further trials and betrayals with unexpected twists and turns in the plot.

Where to even begin!

It’s going to be so hard for me writing a review that I will deem passable. Because this book was so good and so amazing I can’t even articulate how much I enjoyed it. Jeff Wheeler is such a talented writer the way he connects you to the characters is truly magical. Reading this series made my life better. I would recommend it to anyone.

Another great series!

I love this world created by Jeff Wheeler and this series was one of my favorite. just the right mix of fantasy with enough tragedy to make you smile at the good stuff. The cameos were awesome!

An incredible tale

Of magic and intrigue. Wheeler does such a good job of creating characters that you care about. For fans there are tie-ins to the larger Wheeler-verse, and for new comers there is sweet sweet story resolution.

Insonsistent and thinly veiled religious twaddle

Deus Ex Machina is present and corporeal in the last of the series, enjoys suffering unnecessarily.

best in the series!

I've enjoyed all the harbinger series so far, but this is the best yet. It was gripping right from the very beginning and more so as it went on! No words were wasted on long drawn out, irrelevant conversations etc. It was all go. Jeff Wheeler is a magical wordsmith, dragging you into the action, making you share Sera's and Ceti's emotions as they face challenge after challenge. The only downside was that, due to some technical hitch, I was unable to download the audible narration to any of my devices and had to listen on Audible. It was an excellent read/listen, and full marks to the narrator, who left you in no doubt as to who was speaking and drew you into the emotions. At the end, there was a hint that the series might continue. I do hope so
