Virginia Foster is an empty nester who takes on the mission of bringing her town, Abundance, South Carolina, back from economic doldrums after the disappearance of cotton mills in the 1990s. The answer: a festival to bring attention and jobs back to Abundance. As she and her team of fellow retirees work to build the first South Carolina Biscuit Festival (because the town got its name from Abundance Mills Flour Company), they face opposition from a local preacher, the art community, and the town’s maven of baby beauty pageants. And Virginia finds out the mysteries behind her family--who really is Topie, her Aunt Zadie's lifelong companion, and what happened to Virginia's mother who disappeared in the 1940s? Virginia wants to pull the trigger to give her town an economic shot in the arm, but she finds out more about herself than she could have imagined.
