Publisher's summary

In the final installment of the Tales of the Otori, the young Takeo meets his destiny, fulfilling the prophesy: "You were born into the Hidden, but your life...is no longer your own."

The stage is set: Takeo and his new bride Kaede are on the brink of starting a war to reclaim the lands that are her rightful claim by birth, with a thousand loyal warriors by their side. But much more is at stake, with Takeo sworn to avenge the death of his adoptive father. Kaede, a not-at-all helpless damsel, has also cast a first stone by renouncing the powerful Lord Fujiwara, who considers her his first wife.

An imaginary feudal Japan is vividly reconstructed in this magical tale filled with clan rivalries, supernatural powers, shadowy tribes, and true love. Lian Hearn's epic fantasy of a conflict-ridden, mystical world has enraptured fans around the world, thanks to many complex mysteries, fascinating characters, and a riveting buildup to the dazzling finale.

Don't miss the rest of the Tales of the Otori series.

Great Trilogy

This is actually a review of the whole trilogy since few listeners will listen to only this third part. Actually you realize quickly after beginning part one that you’re hooked. You might as well just go ahead and download all three of them. Hearn (Yes, I know that’s a pen name.) really does it all with this trilogy. This beautifully written epic is full of adventure, romance, political intrigue, espionage, gory violence and even a few passionate sex scenes. What more could you ask for? Wonderfully entertaining stuff; I can’t wait for the movies.

THIS TRILOGY IS WORTH EVERY PENNY

Thanks again to Lian Hearn. She completed this trilogy beautifully. I loved the story telling all the way to the end. And like many others, I too listened to many parts over again and again. What a joyful experience she (Lian Hearn) has given us in this trilogy. I loved many of the characters and ached over their trials and endured their tribulations and admired the growth of Kaede and Takeo. I am even trying to imagine how it may be possible for the Trilogy to become a Saga....it has to continue because it is hard to accept that I have come to the Trilogy's end. I will listen to it again for sure. Thank you Audible for making it available to us. This is one of those books where you know you are not sorry for its cost and it makes up for any "loser" ones you feel you may have previously purchased. This Entire Trilogy is WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

wish it were a few hours longer

I agree with the above two reviews, with the last half moving much too fast, as if it were abridged. I was hoping that the battle scenes were more in depth, the subplots more detailed. I feel this is nit-picking, because I listened to this book in one sitting (I have a job where I can listen to books). The book is very entertaining, the ending is a bit of what I didn't expect. I really enjoy how this author ties the different sequence of events of the different characters together. All in all, this is a must listen for those who have listened to the first two books, I just wished it would go on and on for a few more hours!

This is a great trilogy!

This book is really good! I went through all three in a matter of days! The second one is a bit slow at times but this one definitly makes up for that. There is much more action in this book than the other two, but I felt it was done very well.
