As a women’s rights activist with a construction business in Wyoming in 1889, Bretta Shaw’s life isn’t easy. She couldn’t even find anyone to work for her until Alec Peterson shows up. Interesting Illustration of Women's History

Bretta grew up in a world of men, but her father sees her only as a woman in a time when women were to be reliant on men. She breaks away from her father's business and started her own construction company. To add to her challenge to run her own business, she is a women's rights activist. Against her better judgment she hires Alec Peterson in desparation. He seems to be the only applicant desparate enough for a job to work for a women. And so begins the adventure for both of them. Throw in some mystery and romance and you've got an interesting and enjoyable read. Ms. Hopkins creates wonderful characters and inspirational stories. I love her books!

The narration was good and did a great job matching voices to the characters.

Fantastic story!

Janice Cole Hopkins does it again. Pulls me into a story that I can't get enough of. This book is packed with positiveness and love. Bretta has opened her own construction business and needs some help. The problem is, most men will not work for a woman, and it's been hard trying to find someone. When Alec applies for the job, he seems perfect and has no problem with her being the boss. But what does she really know about the man. When things start happening, his secret is revealed and with her intuition and feelings, she knows he is telling her the truth. But what is causing all the problems for her? And it's getting more dangerous by the second. With faith and love, these two stick together and find out just what it is. I loved this story because of the good feelings it gives. I loved it for the way family bands together despite different points of view. But most of all, I love the couple that overlooked society and knew their own hearts. This is a fabulous listen.

Wendy Arcega brings this gem to life with a fantastic performance. She voices both the men and women with ease, giving each the perfect personality and sound. As Bretta, she is strong, opinionated and gives a feeling of independence all through her inflections. Loved her story telling and hope to hear more from her.

Nice characters and a family that works out problems in the end

It was unusual for a woman to own a building renovation business even in the late 1800s. Bretta wants to continue expanding her business so she hires Alec who has secrets in his past. Alec proves his worth to her, but when a family problem arises Alec returns home to help out. In the end everything works out, but the characters involved have to examine their hearts before they are able to move forward.

Entertaining and Intriguing

This book is part of The Suffrage Spinsters Series, a Historical Romance. I liked Bretta and Alec's Christian Romance. The characters are interesting, and the world building intriguing. I liked the little suspense in the story. Wendy Arcega did a great job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to more in the series. I like this series.

Stand Up for Yourself

Bretta’s business is in construction. She is also a Women’s Rights activist and this does effect her business. Most men don’t want to do business with a woman. Her Father and brothers all work in the construction business also, so she knows what to do. She needs help with her jobs and places an ad. Of course, her name was misspelled, so anyone applying thinks it’s Brett. Alec applies and Bretta must hired him or lose business. They work well together and I think they are getting to know each other also. Until strange mishaps occur. Is is due to Bretta, Alec’s past or something else completely. A mystery to solve, while they get closer. I really enjoyed listening to this book and the narrator was wonderful,

Very Enjoyable

I thought this story was very well written and had a good flow to it. A sweet romance with a little intrigue that kept you listening wanting to know what was going to happen next. I've enjoyed many books from this author, they are always interesting and well written.

The narrative was well done. The one exception was that personally, I did not care for Mr Shaw's voice/tone.
