Publisher's summary

From the author of Mountain Man: Encounter a new breed of fear in the first book of a bloodcurdling werewolf horror series set in the snows of Newfoundland.

In a nearly deserted village off the coast of Canada, strange things are happening. A local hunter discovers bare footprints in the snow. The stray dog population has ceased to exist. And people are beginning to ask questions about the town’s recluse.

But with winter’s most powerful weapon bearing down on the island, it’s about to get a lot worse . . .

Breeds is the first book in a trilogy of terror sure to please fans of Robert R. McCammon, Maggie Stiefvater, and Chase Novak.

PARTY DARTS

ONE YOUNG FK AT A TIME
I am a big fan of Blackmore, just read my reviews for Hospital and Mountain Man Omnibus. I was very excited to get this. I thought Blackmore came up with a unique twist on Werewolves and I really liked Max, the German Shepard. Honestly I could not keep my mind on this. Other than Max, I did not really care for any of the other characters and running around eating people only goes so far with me. Part of the problem could be the narrator. I have never really cared for his patronizing voice. Thousands love him. I knew going in, he was narrating, but if written well enough, I figured I would enjoy. I have enjoyed other books he has narrated. I am afraid this book suffers from Trilogyitis. This book was stretched out in order to save something for the next two books. I will not continue this series.

Finally A Non Romantic Good Werewolf Story

Will buy the next book. Not a Twilight or Romantic Chick Werewolf book porn. It follows a mysterious syndicate that sends two trusted agents to do a hit on a rogue werewolf. In the course of their job, things turn for the worst and by the end neither are left untouched by the compromises they had to make to finish the job.

Fantastic new world!

This book is the first in a series so it will be semi-open ended. There is SOME resolve of the book 1 story but you'll be dying for book 2. Very much like a good tv series, season one resolved a season story line but the larger series arc continues. I've read Blackmore's zombie series Mountain Man and to be honest although I loved it very much I was hesitant to follow into this new wolfy world. I'm not sure why, I guess I was such a big Mountain Man fan I didn't want it tainted by something not as good. Turns out I should have had more faith in this writer. He is not a one hit wonder. This new world is richly layered, full of interesting characters (human and otherwise), and full of thrills and chills. There were even some tears - you'll know where when you get there. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this book as either a stand alone or as the start of a fantastic and gruesome new series.
No politics, no sexism, only briefly alluded to sex (thank goodness), minor swearing, graphic violence but not gore porn, and a fantastic narrator that never annoys.

Creative twist!

I liked the characters and how they developed through the story. The story seemed to short. A good read

Another Keith C. Blackmore masterpiece

I chose this book because of the author, I've listened to all of his other books and they were all great, this one is no different! The author does a good job of making the werewolves seem like regular people, brought some humanity to them. The narrator did a great job too, just finished Breeds book 2 and it was great also!

This is good stuff!

I first became acquainted with this author when I used one credit for Mountain Man Omnibus. While I liked the way Blackmore writes, I wasn’t terribly impressed with Mountain Man, finding book one just mediocre, book two even less impressive and book three I couldn’t even finish. But this was a good story, an interesting twist on standard werewolf fiction. The characters were fun, the narrator was amazing, the plot sets up book two beautifully. I definitely recommend this one!
