Precocious Puritan and aspiring witch Arian Whitewood spends her lonely nights dreaming of magic and excitement. She gets more excitement than she bargains for when she crash lands straight out of a witch hunt into modern day New York and the arms of Tristan Lennox, a reclusive billionaire determined to prove magic doesn't exist. Arian blows through Tristan's climate-controlled existence like a breath of fresh air, only to discover that the spell he weaves around her heart is more compelling than any enchantment.

The AI reader regularly mispronounces words, e.g. confuses "resume" as in continue with "resume" as in job application. It offers absolutely no modulation between character pitch/tone, which makes conversations feel disorienting and inauthentic. (The last audiobook I listened to has a family of five sisters and each one had a distinctive voice. Amazing!) The AI reader also has difficulty with getting emphasis right in simple turns of phrase. (Because it is a robot. Who thought this was a good idea?)
Most egregiously, it gives everyone a British accent, though Arian is from 17th century Massachusetts and Tristan is a New Yorker in 1996. This bothered me most because I kept thinking of how a real voice actor would've rendered those compelling distinctions. Such a poor, greed-driven decision. Voice acting is an art, and I will never take it for granted again.
However. I stuck around because the writing was strong. Such a fun read I landed on in a stressful time. I looked forward to listening after the workday to take my mind off things.
Definitely plan on reading the sequel, though I will probably stick with the physical copy for that-- no soulless narrator necessary.
Writing is excellent, AI narrator is trash
