Weird, funny, and deliciously creepy, "Bottoms Up" shows us a twisted not-so-distant future where technology is used to control even the most intimate of human acts. A mismatched pair of socks brings two people together, but once they find out they’re perfect for each other, their obsession with a clean bill of health drives them to seek the ultimate in safe sex. A slick read that melds science fiction and literary romance, "Bottoms Up" is an utterly original look at the disintegration of love as mediated by our modern obsessions with health, self-improvement, and technology. This story originally appeared in Tin House.©2014 DailyLit (P)2015 Audible, Inc. Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction

Set in the not too distant future, the advertised meet-cute ends in the first minute, followed by a germaphobe telling you how he came to prefer his hi-tech robot (or Battery Operated Boyfriend in today’s slang) over his real life boyfriend. The story didn’t sell me on the cleanliness mania or the disloyal affections, but the ending was a bit creepy as advertised- and abrupt. Nothing explicit here, unless you count a single use of the word “dildo.” Not entertaining, even as a free listen.
