"Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders," Seinfeld writes. At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle. How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.

Publisher's Summary
Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update", before "Sarah Palin", Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.
She has seen both of those dreams come true.
At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.
Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.
Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your Library section along with the audio.
Critic Reviews
Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade
Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

Not for my generation
The first few chapters of this book are filled with pop culture references from the 70's and 80's. Since I was born in the mid 80's, most of these flew right past me and I'm sure obscured some of the humor. If you're a baby boomer or Gen X, it might work for you, but I couldn't get past it. Maybe I'll finish listening if I have nothing else in my library, but it wasn't for me.
Also, a lot of the humor is based around being a nerdy, not attractive girl, and since I'm a guy, I couldn't really relate.

Can't anyone be funny without swearing? :(
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I didn't make it through the book...in fact I didn't listen to very much at all. I have small children and I prefer not to have swearing and F-bombs pop out while I'm listening in the house with them. So I'm sure that won't bother most, obviously she is very popular and good at what she does....it's just not for me. Wish I had returned the book when I could have. Oh well.

Not what I was expecting
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not sure what I was expecting ... I actually read the e-book, instead of listening to this one; while it was fun to read her perspective of how she got to where she is now. I was always a fan of her writing and her news on SNL. I think she is very funny and witty; 30 Rock is great, I watch it regularly, but this book was almost more like sitting down to lunch with Tina and she answered the question

High expectations not met
Is there anything you would change about this book?
If there was anything I would change about this book, it would be the flow of events in her book. I would have appreciated it more if she did not jump around too much when telling her story.
Has Bossypants turned you off from other books in this genre?
Bossypants might have made me realize that this type of genre is not for me but I think I would still try out another book just to make sure.
What three words best describe Tina Fey’s voice?
Three words to describe Tina Fey's voice are quirky, upbeat and supportive.
Did Bossypants inspire you to do anything?
Bossypants inspired me to never apologize for who I am and not to care of what other people thought of me. As long as I know that what I want, go for it and do not look back.

I expected more, actually.
What did you like best about Bossypants? What did you like least?
Tina was funny, but not as funny as I had expected. What is your target audience, Tina? I couldn't find myself in it. A little heavy on the feminism preaching, but I get it. Also, the editor dropped the ball by allowing Tina to begin talking rapidly at the end of some phrases for the effect of muttering under her breath. It was impossible to understand these phrases.
What was most disappointing about Tina Fey’s story?
Nothing was really disappointing, although some parts lacked substance. I expected to laugh out loud more than once. I didn't.
What three words best describe Tina Fey’s voice?
Kitten with whip.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope.
