Publisher's summary

The explosive true story of a gun for hire.

Hard eyes stare out of massive beards, their faces marked by the scars of battle. With these guys their webbing looks like it belongs to them, rather than it's been hung on a pair of reluctant shoulders. There's not a word been said to us, but the ante has clearly been upped. There's a dark and sinister feeling in the air. It doesn't take a genius to figure it's about to kick off.

Former SAS soldier Big Phil Campion tells it like is in this brutally honest account of his insanely dangerous life as a private military operator. From playing chicken with a suicide bomber in backstreet Kabul to taking on pirates with his bare hands, this is true-life action-packed drama at its best.

Lovely book with superb narration

Very much a mix of his personal story and his hair raising escaped on the “soldier for hire” circuit. His is truly fearless. Worth the read!

A great book made ‘excellent’ by the narration!!

I am so grateful that ‘Big Phil’ narrated his own book. It adds tremendous personality, colour and insight into scenarios and events that would otherwise be lost.
Second, I truly appreciate the decision to interface the history, from a biographical point of view, into the Ops. Too many of these sorts of books plod along in a linear timeline whereas Phil will be sitting on a ship conducting anti-piracy and drift into another snippet of Intel regards his past; a refreshing approach.
Big Phil - clearly a big lad with a big heart, a humble attitude and a maverick thinker not afraid to act when action is required.
Inspirational. Hats off! Loved it.

A special forces memoir with a difference

I really enjoyed this very different memoir from an ex-special forces soldier. Rather than the usual blow by blow telling of hard times growing up and going through military training leading up to an account of special forces selection, we get only a few anecdotes of these times. Most of the book focuses on the author's time as a private military contractor working on a number of very different contracts. This is the first book I've read focusing on that so I found it most interesting. The writing is often humourous and having the author narrating his own story adds to this. All in all, a most enjoyable listen.
