Story
There will come a day when love will mark you as a traitor. In a society where emotions are nothing and function is everything, Avlyn Lark is just trying to blend in. She's lucky to be alive, unlike her twin brother Ben who died when they were four. And she's lucky to have been taken from her biological parents and assigned to a Level Two family. But mastering her emotions? That's a problem, especially when a rebel bomb blows up a building right in front of her. Then on Configuration Day, Avlyn's official transition to adulthood, she starts seeing strange visions. And instead of being placed with a low-level tech company where she could hide away, she's hired by Genesis Technologies, the government firm that monitors every citizen. Now, instead of blending in, Avlyn fears she'll be exposed for what she really is.

Publisher's Summary
The world has changed. The buildings have fallen, blown away with the winds. The roads crumble as the forest takes back the land we stole a long time ago. It's only been 10 years since the end, but it feels like a hundred for Emma, who has been alone since the beginning, surviving on the skills her crazy father forced on her.
Trust no one. Pull the trigger. Hide. Run. Stay away from the other survivors. Stay away from the Infected. She has obeyed her father's rules since she can remember running from the car accident that claimed his life. But one night that all changes. The knock at her cabin door and the voice of the girl on the other side don't make Emma help the girl. No - it's the fact that the girl, Anna, is willing to die to save her wounded brother that changes everything in Emma's world. Emma finds friends and family in Anna and her brother, Jake. She feels things that she thought she never would. But like her Granny always said, "Everything comes at a cost. You must decide what you are willing to pay." For Emma that decision comes as Anna is stolen and taken to the breeder farms. Emma knows that she will pay anything to get Anna back, including her own life.

The romance crap is torture
Has a strong, sensible female protagonist, cool viral apocalypse, scary survival aspects, and in-depth psychological themes for the characters. It would be five stars if not for the cringey romantic scenes where the main character says to the guy that keeps hitting on her "Leave me alone, I have more important things to do and I dont need a romance because I'm strong" yet immediately contradicts it in the narration saying "omg I just cant help but be into this guy, even though he *literally grabbed her physically and hurt her*?!!!" I'm so frustrated, having been in domestic violence situations growing up, there is no way someone that experienced it (like was claimed) would even consider being involved with that guy. Still debating if the story is worth this headache...

Finally a heroine I can respect
She's bad ass and demands respect. I can't stand girls who keep falling for guys for the wrong reasons. She doesn't give in to desires, she goes the hard way cuz she knows she's worth it and respects herself. And hilarious about the big guy with no survival skills, like so many guys I know. Cracks me up. I like the characters and how the storyline evolves naturally. I can relate.

Really Enjoyed
Would you listen to Born again? Why?
I really enjoyed this book as it was not focused on the technical details of weapons, training and such, it was about the turmoil and emotional consequences of her father's influence and the life after he died. I loved how the main character was finally successful in dealing with her isolation and gaining the ability to include others in her life.
Great book as I love the focus on the emotional and mental turmoil one would feel.

Abusive love interest
I was disgusted with the romantic relationship with Will. I kept listening hoping it gets better and even that he'd be the bad guy in the end. She just forgives him and seems powerless when a heroin should be strong and doesn't waste a second thought on someone like that. Their conversations seemed disjointed, they'd fight and the next time they see each other they just talk as if nothing happened.
I also feel there wasn't enough time spent developing her relationship with Jake and Anna when they first arrived, so it's hard to understand her commitment and willingness to sacrifice everything for them

Horrible characters
If you like lots misogynistic quasi-date rape doe one of the books "good guys" then you may like this book. I suspect it was written by an MRA proponent as the main male protagonist keeps trying to date rape the main female protagonist in spite of her repeatedly tell him not to touch her. And the female protagonist keeps saying "don't touch me" but is revealed in her inner monologue to secretly like it when he touches her. Absolutely insufferable characters and a complete waste of time.

Good writing and story
I really liked this story. My only real problem with it is the massive cliffhanger ending. I hate it when writers do that. I liked it well enough to read the next one anyway, I didn't need the cliffhanger to make me do it.

Fantastic Listen
Great Narration
The storyline is gripping with great characters and a wonderful wolf. I was on board from page one and listened continually over one day.
The narrator is pure perfection... velvet on my ears with the right amount of emotion and inflection when need.
