Return to America’s most beloved fictional hometown! Lake Wobegon is having a boom year thanks to millennial entrepreneurship—AuntMildred’s.com Gourmet Meatloaf, for example, or Universal Fire, makers of artisanal firewood seasoned with sea salt. Meanwhile, the author flies in to give eulogies at the funerals of five classmates, including a couple whom he disliked, and he finds a wave of narcissism crashing on the rocks of Lutheran stoicism. He is restored by the humor and grace of his old girlfriend Arlene and a visit from his wife, Giselle, who arrives from New York for a big love scene in an old lake cabin.

The books has 17 chapters only. When Garrison reads he actually skips some paragraphs. I do really like listening to his voice.

A very welcome addition to the story of Lake Woebegon. Full of bits and pieces of information avid readers have only guessed and dreamed about. The narration is like listening to an old friend talk on the phone, you just don't want to interrupt. Thank you Mr. Keillor.

Exceptional

The book focuses on getting old and the loss of our friends and loved ones that comes with this time and age. It's about saying goodbye and remembering the past and holding onto your nearest and dearest if you have one. It's a bit of a love letter to his wife, and gets a bit detailed about their love life which isn't necessarily what I was interested in (not specifically his, but anyone's is not interesting at this point in my life) but, to be fair sex is a natural reaction to death and tied into the cycle and thus the story. There's a lot of laughs, but it is a bit of a sad and heavy subject. Nostalgia hits us all, eventually, but probably not if your in your 20s...

For those of us who are older

Garrison Keillor is an amazing storyteller. He has an unapologetic way of bringing his stories to life with wit and sarcasm that isn't mean spirited. He's just funny.

As good as he always is!

I love his voice and have listened to him for over 30 years and had the pleasure of meeting him and he signed this book. A treasure to be sure!

We are all from Lake Wobegon.

A feeling of fortune that, once again, we get to sit with a modern “Mark Twain” as he regales us with a living tale that will forever reside in the beloved halls of the (barely fictional?) history of the best of Minnesota.

With somber honesty and undecorated humor Mr. Keillor illuminates the passage of time and the changing tides of those of us who knew the small town Minnesota life all too well. It is a preservation of a memory of Lake Wobegone - and we are left to wonder if, like “Brigadoon,” we will ever encounter the legendary village again.

Minnesota’s beloved “Mark Twain”.
