Books into films: Why Mickey 7 is so unique

Earlier this year, Warner Brothers announced the release of a film based on a book called Mickey 7 which is by a rather unknown author. Normally these kind of ventures can take years as we have seen from authors like Stephen King and John Green so why is this different? COVID? The director? The cast? Maybe Robert Pattinson?
