*After 144 magical episodes, we decided to change our name to better show that we stand with the trans community. We are unable to change our name within those episodes, but will be using For Fawkes’ Sake starting at episode 145 and going forward! New name, same magical Harry Potter compare and contrast!*

While we love Harry Potter, we do not condone or agree with its creator’s ignorant opinions. We stand with the trans community.

Welcome to For Fawkes’ Sake, a Harry Potter book/movie compare and contrast podcast. Join us for a special bonus episode of Potterheads: A History!

For this episode we talk with Pittsburgh playwright Sara Baines-Miller about the women in Harry Potter and how that specifically inspired her to start rewriting the series from Hermione’s perspective! She has the first two written and you can check them out here:

The fact that she rewrote the ENTIRE first two books from Hermione's perspective is really impressive! As always with fan fiction, not everyone will agree on the same perspective. For example, I don't think Hermione needs to have an anxiety disorder to cause her excellence in academics. Some people just genuinely enjoy learning and testing themselves and doing/achieving the absolute best that they can! I do think that Hermione felt extra pressure to excel seeing as she was muggle born and knew nothing about the wizarding world until probably age 10 (since she would have turned 11 in September). I also don't think it fits to portray Hermione's parents as unsupportive or hard on her in anyway because in the books they have always supported her and been portrayed as having a good relationship with Hermione and the Weasleys and Hermione never spoke poorly of her parents and you would think she might have bonded with Harry over that if she wasn't happy at home. Plus Hermione was heart broken when she erased herself from her parents' memories. So in my opinion she had a good relationship with her parents, even if they did have high expectations for her. But I really do think it was mostly just Hermione having high expectations for herself. Loved this episode about the women of Harry Potter! Always fun to get other perspectives and to delve deeper into the characters. Thanks Ellen and Keighty!
