Publisher's Summary

Think you need to hit the gym hard-core and work until you’re sore to lose weight and improve your fitness and strength levels? Think again. You could do all of that and more, and all you need is your own body weight to do it!

Your body is an incredible machine, stronger and more capable than you know, and it is in this book that you will learn just how to improve and adapt your fitness routines to harness your bodyweight training exercises for improved results. When you have everything that you need right there in front of you (your own body), you owe it to yourself to take control of your fitness and physique and achieve the fitness goals you set for yourself.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a lot of heavy equipment, free weights, or machines to get the results you’re so longing to see. The human body can provide enough resistance on its own to make a change. Power, endurance, speed, flexibility, strength, coordination, balance and a whole host of other biomotor abilities can be built and developed over time by using the power of your own body to do it.

Bodyweight training is growing in popularity. Even professional athletes are tapping into and harnessing the power of calisthenic training and making it a part of their fitness regime.

Pushing, pulling, balancing, bending, twisting and squatting may look like simple bodyweight exercises, but they pack a power punch as you will soon see when you progress through the exercises in this book.

Bodyweight training is the perfect option for those who don’t have the time to hit the gym because they can be done anywhere and at any time, often requiring very minimal space to do it. That, combined with the lower risk of injury involved, makes bodyweight training the ideal technique for getting in shape without putting too much strain on the body.

Sometimes, the only difference between success and failure is the existence of a good guide. With clear, step-by-step guidance instructions, this audiobook is the going to be the only manual you will ever need to begin building a stronger, fitter, and better you.

30 Exercises and the Hows and Whys

Charlie Mason has put together a very good introduction to calisthenics and body weight training - easy for a beginner, but also giving ways and means to expand the skills as you advance.

Mason explains why body weight training is good, giving a quick but detailed description of its benefits (cheap, easy, whole body, can be done anywhere, adaptable etc.).

There are three sections of 10 exercises - upper body, lower body and core. Each goes through the technique for the exercises (how to position yourself, how man reps, what you are working on with this exercise, and how to extend it) allowing the listener to understand what they are doing. Short of having someone actually with you showing and explaining, this is about as good as you can possibly get.

Narration by Elliott Jolly is very good. He is clear and well paced, but most of all he sounds enthusiastic. He sounds interested and engaged with the topic, which helps the listener be engaged.

There are dozens of books on this topic available, and I cannot speak for the others, but i do feel that you cannot go wrong if this is the one you choose to pick up.

A good begginers guide to calisthenics

Within this book, we get a good set of exercises for different zones within our body (upper, lower and core) all that can be done with nothing more than our own bodies as resistance and the weight. Also, it explains the many benefits of this type of training and what you can expect from undertaking it. The descriptions and breakdowns of the routines are pretty easy to follow and are a great reference point you can listen to while trying them out. The narration is good and helps explain and break everything down very clearly. This is a good short and concise block of exercises that you can do using your body as the focal point of your workout.

Great book for training

This is an incredible book for weight training or those that want to get back into weight training. I was able to pick up a lot of information in a short amount of time that I wasn't expecting. Narrator was also awesome!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Bodyweight training intro

This book is an encouraging introduction to the unique benefits of bodyweight training. Certainly in my space-limited house (and on my generally limited budget), it's discouraging to think through buying and storing exercise equipment. And for anything more involved than a stationary bike or treadmill, there's the worry that I'll use it incorrectly, or worse, dangerously. Bodyweight training eliminates all of these concerns and significantly lowers the barrier to entry in all of these areas.

This is an informative book with many instructive passages. As such, it's important for the narration to be crisp and clear. This narrator certainly succeeded in this and kept the focus on being clear about the information, not trying to make it artificially more exciting. I was impressed.
